  1. I like this map showing land burned in the spring 1903 ADK complex. It doesn't look very impressive until you focus on a familiar point of interest like Lake Placid, then the scope sinks in a little. Makes our current troubles seem like a walk in the park.
  2. That's pretty sizeable for the 21st century. More acres burned than the total in NYS some years.
  3. It's a legitimate rainy night. Up around a half inch with steady showers ongoing.
  4. Quite the situation unfolding in the 'gunks.
  5. It looks like Sam's Point is on fire again. Picture found in this comment thread: https://www.facebook.com/UlsterCountyFireRescueIncidents/posts/pfbid02zVjYwYhiu15YLYfmfBZB8VDUkNQuuYaWC9KJKJZ5zkNu9ZvvJ81ren43V6QhDtGXl
  6. No rain in my area. Pretty dewy though, just to really make sure 90 felt like 90.
  7. The rumors of summer's demise were greatly exaggerated
  8. A few fireflies are flashing here for the first time since July. They like the moisture.
  9. Currently the heaviest rain of the day, and it isn't particularly heavy. Maybe this shower will push me over one tenth for the event.
  10. It looks like POU maxed out at 79 before the rain started, ending the 80+ streak after 54 days.
  11. There must be some impressive totals under that cell north of Ramsey.
  12. The NAM follows suit with hardly a drop to be found up the HV. Next.
  13. The HRRR has been trending later with precip onset - from early morning to noon or later - and drier, on account of the weaker WAA. 00z is little more than spotty showers through Tuesday. On the upside, it also warms the area to the low 80s, and you guys know I take the streak very seriously
  14. Sun is coming out here - there's a shot at keeping the 80+ streak alive (yesterday was a record 49 days at POU). Currently 77 at home.
  15. There will be some spotty convective showers backing in from the north toward the end of the day. Maybe something will actually reach the ground.
  16. The usual caveats about phase diagrams, but I'm pretty sure half of the cold season nor'easters have deeper warm cores than this
  17. The water wars have already started. https://www.reddit.com/r/hudsonvalley/comments/wp347h/if_nyc_people_conserve_water_will_that_help_our/
  18. I'd been hoping to plant a few new spruces this fall to replace my dead ash trees. Maybe that's best put off until spring...
  19. The deer will pay for the wall, not to worry.
  20. The animals are getting desperate for food. This week a deer jumped a 7' fence to eat my sweet corn, and a groundhog chewed through chicken wire to get to my tomatoes. Neither garden has ever been breached before.
  21. Despite the cooler air mass, the 80F+ streak lives on at POU and it's easy to see that we're in the upper echelon of such streaks. Not updated for today, so it's at 46 days now.
