So what happened is what you described. The warm layer aloft races in, but lower elevation remained able to sustain low wetbulbs and probably refreezes. Of course modeling can be off too, but I bet that is what occurred.

That sounding doesn’t really show a funny warm layer either. Probably heavily rimed flakes making it down?

Yeah you can see the wet bulb temp easily supports that. Bingo.

High 52 here this aftn. Temp rose 1F from this morning.

It’s certainly possible is there is big one evaporational cooking happening above 950 which I’m sure there is. I haven’t looked at a sounding, but my guess is that you’ll see that.

That’s definitely an eye brow raiser. Any reports of damage?

A met friend in Newport sent me something similar. Looked like at first, scud from colliding boundaries. Haven’t seen a clean look.
