There are a few of these areas all over. I know of one not far from State College PA. They call it the barrens.

This winter had some things going for it to start among the colder and snowy analog years following a cold November and snowy December. But alas they don’t always work out. Some of the sub seasonal trends were favorable too until the big AK vortex set up. AK was due for some cold too.
At least in 11-12 you knew it was hopeless throughout. This year is teasing enough to keep us interested with some snow down to the nrn high terrain of SNE. In 11-12...you had no hope. The teasing definitely irates me.
It just depends where you are. 11-12 was worse for snow verbatim, but I can’t think of a combo of warmth and lack of snow since mid December that anyone has seen. If anything your area may be ground zero for anomalously low snow during this stretch.
Yea this is with the all timers for here. Even for interior, the lack of snow since early December is remarkable. I know once you get up to where Hunchie lives it’s been better.
It looks tough going forward. We went on a run from here on out last year. Maybe “run” is a little bit of an embellishment....but I made up significant ground.
At least it’s still winter in NNE even with the pig. I remember I went up there to escape in Feb 2012. It was worse up there in 2012 vs this year, but still had full snow and ice cover.
But it’s still winter. Brian, you need to let it play out. The winter severity index which was developed by some 500lb obese guy who never got laid, says it’s not so bad. Jeepers.
Maybe he’s sugar high on maple syrup. It’s been non existent with record warmth and near record low snows since mid December. But hey it’s still winter!
