Ripping good here. Perhaps 1/8 mile visibility currently. The treeline beyond the houses on the right, barely visible in the pic, are a half block away.
Was just going to say, our winds are starting to pick up, and now flake size is increasing as the intensity is picking up. I think we got ourselves a storm now.
Temp 23.2
Just measured 2" in the backyard. Flake size back to almost pixie dust again, though. Looks like we'll get some heavier banding coming through in the next few hours though.
Temp continues to drop. Down to 23.9 now.
I'm at 28.4 and yet the snow is having a hard time accumulating even on my Jeep which has not been run yet today. Is it me, or is solar radiation stronger now than it was, say 30+ years ago? I don't remember snow having such a hard time accumulating at sub 30 degree temperatures back in the days of my youth.
I hope so. Sometimes sky conditions fortel what's to come. I remember a good number of years ago where the day prior, we were sitting on the edge of a cirrus deck that had blue skies to the north and west and clouds to the south and east. We ended up getting 2" out of a warned storm where Allentown and points south got double digit totals.
I'd be lying if I said this didn't make me nervous, as I've seen it before. The sun visible in the clouds at the onset of the storm. A few times, it was the the harbinger of a bust that ended up being way less than what was originally forecast.
Yeah, I know it's been "holy" all week. Maybe because it's a Sunday storm...lol
I know that won't verify as shown, it was more tongue in cheek and a bad attempt at being humorous, just like my quip above.
My observation of the bolded part of the quote is that I've seen this many times, so there's some truth to it. The flip side of that is that my location north of the Blue Mountain in Schuylkill County ends up being in a subsidence zone.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm ready for break in the cold. It makes my job so difficult, so on that note I'm hoping to see the AN for February.
With that said, I'd still like to see a solid thump before this crazy cold this week.
So does any of the more knowledgeable folks have an idea on ratios? I usually look at the Kuchera snow maps, but I know they're not 100% accurate. I'd like to see QPF and figure out the snow with potential ratios
