They make a ton of money opening and closing the systems. One guy I met said he didn't have to put another system in and he could live off the ones he services.

you aren't kidding. The company that installed mine charges $65 for closing, and they are in and out in 10 mins. they can probably bang out 20-25 systems a day no problem.

well the bad man with the air compressor stopped by yesterday- no more sprinklers for the season- seems early to me but whatever.

lawn looks great- until i put a giant spiderweb/spiders on it- will try and take a pic later

i can't stand how early they winterize. no threat of a deep freeze for at least a month. i do mine myself, rent the big compressor, makes it an easy job. I just have to wait until all the contractors return the rentals-early Nov works for me.

Hey guys- update- followed your advice...bought that green electric de-thatcher linked above- followed by fert/seed...things look fantastic.  So now what's the plan for the spring?

I wanna use the crab grass stuff scott talked about...do i do a spring dethatching or anything? and i presume no seed if i use the crabgrass control.

don't dethatch in the spring, you never should. that will just open space for crabgrass to take hold. also, since you just put down grass seed, some of that seed will be sprouting next spring.

and yes, you cannot seed in the spring if you are going to use crabgrass control

I think there were actually 3 cutters, but they became less ridiculous with each one. The first cutter was the worst I've ever seen.

was it worse than the great xmas eve cutter of 2020? I lost 2+ feet of snow in less than 24 hours

They’ve got me good. I just randomly pulled a weed in the front lawn, and the roughly 2x2 area that came up had 6 grubs in it. The grass is starting to just blow away in spots and I can see the bastards on the surface.

you're screwed. it's probably too late to save. Better off waiting till spring and spreading grub killer. After a few weeks, rototill it and start over again.

The mistake was granting him FA.

i agree with that. That was TB's request, so to me it seems like he wanted out anyway.

plus, keeping TB would have put the Pats continually up against the cap.

It’s a big hole without Brady. If he were on the team I would still predict a playoff run for them with that record. Pats really messed up letting him go.

Brady was a free agent, and wanted to leave.

Very high cholesterol runs in my family. I have been on statins since I turned 18 and my total cholesterol was already high 200s at that time even though I was as thin as a rail and played various sports. Never had any side effects, that I am aware of at least. Liver numbers always looked good.

My HDL remains too low and my LDL too high. My triglycerides have also spiked at various points, but I made some additional dietary changes and they recently dropped. Without statins, my cholesterol would be off the charts right now and I would be headed for a heart attack at a fairly young age.

I am not a fatty who eats three burgers a day, either. My body just makes too much of the stuff.

So I recommend the drugs to anyone dealing with high cholesterol who already has a decent diet, keeps their weight in check, and exercises.

i AM a fatty who drinks too much beer. my doc wanted me to go on statins for the past several years, but i was able to control the cholesterol with a better diet. Then I had a bit of a scare earlier this summer, as my BP was off the charts. I caved and started on the statins, and also on BP medication. feeling much better now though, so I got that going for me.

Yeah I guess we are comparing different things with back broken.  There is no doubt it has been much different than August IMO.  I was running my A/C consistently and it hasn’t been on once in September and I haven’t been swimming once either… that’s what I think of when back broken.

Just because we carry +1.5 in October or November doesn’t mean its still summer.  I’m not sure when the cut-off happens but most months are above normal these days.  We’ve stepped down a good 5-10F from August on average it seems at most stations.

Maybe 10-15F lower than August will break the back.

my avg temp in Aug was 73. so far in Sept, it's 67. I'd say that's a change.

Looks like I’m in a pretty good spot today. Might take a drive over towards Manchester/Derry NH later if I’m done with work in time. That area could be nice, they typically get it good around there. Then again the seacoast is nice for the unrestricted views...

NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
       1059 AM CDT Wed Sep 15 2021

Areas affected...portions of MA...NH and ME

       Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely

       Valid 151559Z - 151800Z

       Probability of Watch Issuance...95 percent

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity
through the afternoon. Damaging wind gusts and some hail will be the
main hazards. A severe thunderstorm watch will likely be needed by
       18z.

DISCUSSION...Convection is increasing ahead of a cold front near the
Canadian border at midday. Stronger heating across southern New
England to the south/west of a surface warm front has allowed for
more rapid destabilization compared to much of ME, which remains
under heavy stratus. As the upper trough shifts northeast through
the afternoon, and the cold front slowly advances east/southeast,
the warm front will lift northeast across ME. This will allow
surface dewpoints from the mid 60s to near 70 F to overspread much
of New England, and MLCAPE is forecast to increase to around
       500-1500 J/kg by mid-afternoon.

Strong vertical shear is already in place over the region, with
effective shear magnitudes greater than 40 kt evident in regional
VWP data. Deep-layer southwesterly flow parallel to the surface
front will support mainly lines/bowing segments with damaging wind
gusts being the main hazard expected through this evening. However,
southerly near-surface winds will contribute to somewhat enlarged
low-level hodographs. Rich boundary-layer moisture also will support
stronger 0-3 km instability from southern portions of VT/NH into far
southern ME/northern MA. A tornado or two could occur across this
area, especially if any more discrete cellular activity can persist.

.58" for this last rain event.  Brings me up to 2.02" for the month and 3.59"  since August 1rst.  Everyone south of me and complain of endless excessive rain but sure not here.  I hope when SNE finally gets into a dry pattern it is not compounded up here with us going from fairly dry back to drought.

    i'm at just about 30" since May 1, 10" since August 1. it's wet.
