Lots of letters and cold calls to sell our house.    One of my neighbors (who was thinking of retirement anyway) took them up on it and is moving to Lake Sunapee NH where it's not as crazed as here.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It was definitely a more traditional front-loaded Nina that finished with a wimper, but the first half was pretty damned good. January had no torches at all for those who like the prolonged snowpack getting deeper and deeper during the coldest climo days of winter.

i remember having a very nice snow pack in early March, then it must have torched because i also remember it disappearing quickly.

I bought a new 2021 Canyon Denali in February at a reasonable price, so I assume that was just before the market really went nuts. The salesman was going on about how I wouldn't be able to find a new truck in a few months' time. At the time I brushed it off as a slightly embellished version of the usual shtick, but in retrospect, I guess he was right.

It turned out to not be my favorite truck ever. If someone offered me over sticker price for it, I'd probably hand them the keys on the spot.

I was sort of looking in Feb, and there was plenty of inventory for what I wanted. i kept my eye on it and noticed that inventory was getting depleted quickly. my old Truck forced my hand, as I needed to put $5k into it, which I was not going to do for a 10 year old truck, so I ended up getting lucky and finding exactly what I was looking for in mid-March. when all was said and done, I paid $8k under sticker. like I said, I got lucky.

Yeah that was a pretty uniformly good season across most of New England. There weren't any extreme jackpot zones and few true screw zones. CT Valley may have been a little on the light side and maybe the outer Cape was struggling to reach average, but otherwise hard to find any spots below average.

we take. Had a great Dec and Jan, but Feb was just OK with 14". bump that up a tad and we don't complain

They try and steer you towards their financing but I don't think they can require you to use it though, can they?  If they give you a better price by using it, take it and then re-finance with your preferred lender.  I've done that before.

i bought a new truck recently. was pre-approved through my bank for 2.15%. Dealer gave me $1500 off to take their financing at 2.25%. cost me $1 more/month ($600 total) and saved me $900. no brainer

So I've been looking ahead to my lawn/garden/beds and what I'll need to do.  I need to repair my lawn which has not been maintained well over the years through my own fault.  I need to start taking better care of it and I've been researching steps to do so.  Dethatching/Scarifying and over-seeding is going to be a huge piece,  I ended up purchasing this today.

    https://snowjoe.com/products/sun-joe-13-inch-12-amp-electric-scarifier-lawn-dethatcher-w-collection-bag

Electric Dethather/Scarifier.  I've researched this for a couple weeks and this brand seems to be reputable and the reviews of the product are outstanding.  I'm excited to see the results.  Once i have that piece done, I'll need to over seed and I'm leaning towards a lower maintenance. TTTF.  They require less water and are more resistant to summer drought periods and disease.  In conjunction with this, I'll be doing new planting beds around the yard and I'm thinking the most efficient way to create them is to use a tiller on the areas to churn in up and than form the edges.  Lots to do.

i have a couple Sun Joe products (mini battery powered snowblower, battery powered compressor). have no complaints about either.

What are you going to use to overseed?

Seeing my friend run his brewery was crazy,  Lots of menial tasks, cleaning being a huge part of it.   I haven't been there in a few years and they've grown substantially from where they so I'm sure his day to day tasks have changed since he has to run the business more and delegate the brewing.  I do know Covid dropped their sales by 50%, which forced a change in how they operate.  I don't think they ever laid off anyone.  They do a lot of sales now in food which helps immensely.  They'll be relocating their business in 1-2 yrs as the State/Feds are adding an interchange off i-93 that'll help alleviate the current exit and provide a more direct route into Derry.

they have been talking about adding that exit literally since the early 90's.

It's summer, prime-time.  Why wouldn't I enjoy it?  Sure we've had some crap days, but most of the time has been warm and humid, almost no cool and dry weather at all.  I never understood why people complain about weather, especially the winter fiends inJanuary and not snowing every day.  At least it's winter (if you enjoy that)

    Beer?

most of the time warm and humid? I'll give you the humid part, but mostly warm days is flat out wrong.

I'll also give you that there has been no cool and dry weather. There have been very few (4) dry days, however the cool days have outnumbered the HHH days. At mi casa, of the 19 days of July, i have had measurable precip on 15 days (79%).

assuming my daily average high is around 80, i have had 9 days below normal, 8 days above, and 2 right around normal. Also, assuming 70 is the average daily temp, i have had 10 below normal, 6 days above, and 3 right around normal. I mean, my average temp on July 3 was 56 (14 degrees BN). Prime time summer indeed.

I honestly have loved this. Other than 4th weekend . That sucks . I hate cold in summer. Other than that it’s been warm with high dews everyday and more thunderstorms than I could ever have dreamed of . Severe wx, lightning .. dews.. not having to bundle up at sundown . There’s even been some 90 + degree days thrown in around the area. I do not get the complaining unless…. Folks want to tan . Scooter spent the whole day at the beach Saturday lol. This past weekend was as deep summer as you get. 80’s, dews in the mid to even upper 70’s, tons of convection and plenty of sun after about mid morning

i honestly think you have been lucky south of the pike with temps. my high yesterday was 72.yes, Sat was a good enough day, mid-80's and plenty humid. But up here, those days have been few and far between.

Cool and humid may be the worst combo ever.

i know DIT and especially the Troll Tiger say they love the dewy weather, but there is no way either of them are enjoying this. Outside activities, particularly on the weekends, have been mostly a fail.

The worst. I have no idea how they even got in there.

and thanks… YouTube is fantastic for this stuff. Teaching myself how to do a few things and working through this stuff has saved me a good chunk of change even in just the last year.

you would be amazed at the tight spaces those little f-ers can get into. they can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime. They have no collar bone, so they can get through a hole the diameter of their head.

  12. Tippy, @Typhoon Tipi just install my ACs right on top of the replacement window ledge. the little lip/hump on the bottom of the AC unit sits just outside the ledge that you have. the window on top holds it in place just fine. I wedge a piece of wood between the top of the bottom window sash and the bottom of the frame to make it so the window can't open. kind of like @Supernovicestated. Keep it simple.

  13. I've had rain on 11 of the first 13 days, and the two days that it didn't rain were cloudy. aside from an hour or 2 with sunshine here or there, it's been crap. No way to spin that. i think the last true sunny day we had was Tuesday 6/29. Avg temp in June was 71.4. So far July is 66.4

Takes some pretty bad luck to be fully vaccinated at an outdoor event and still catch covid.  But note that those who had the vaccines used in the US had mild cases.

6 fully vaccinated people who attended an outdoor wedding caught the Delta variant, but the ones with Pfizer and Moderna shots didn't get very sick

    https://news.yahoo.com/6-fully-vaccinated-people-caught-154610774.html

why is this even news? it should be very well-known that the vaccines, although very effective at preventing covid, are not 100% effective. Break through cases are going to happen.

with or without vaccines, covid isn't going away anytime soon.

I had to turn off the irrigation this morning. I've had like 6 rain skips so far this year which is a new record . It goes by forecasted rainfall amounts and it was already up to 0.25 " when I shut it off

mine has not run since June 30. either the rain sensor has been on, rain skips, or manual skips (I don't always trust the rain skips)

Gonna finish AOA normal for July

you could be right, in fact I could see it being within +/- 1 degree of normal. aside from BDL, I don’t see us being much above normal. I don’t see any crazy heat forecasted for BOS north for the next week or so.
