  1. The wireless cable box sounds like the same thing Spectrum is doing. It's just another streaming device, like a Roku stick
  2. Verizon. They're evil too, but the deal was pretty straight forward and it's not a 'temporary/promotional' rate. I read that other cable companies (I think Spectrum) are dropping the cable TV and soft-forcing their their customers to stream the cable line-up. At least then you can lose the cable box, but it has been a hardship for some elderly people confused by streaming navigation. Other than the box, it didn't lower their cost You do have to factor in the cost of any streaming services that you might want to add. I had a couple already, so those costs were a wash. I did add sling.
  3. I did that and got no satisfaction. I told them that the next call would be me cancelling, and it was. That 2nd call they tried to make a deal and I told them to pound salt. Went from $307 to $117. For $117 we still have our VoIP "landline" and better internet than we had. $190/month savings is a lot of craft beers
  4. That's 1 bill somewhere north of $300 is my guess. I used to pay that too. Less than half as much for almost the same stuff now. I don't get TWC any more, but had rarely been watching it before.
  5. This might be a good example of the winds off the Sound fracturing snowflakes. ISP reported 24.7" of snow with 1.33" SWE. I had 16.4" of snow with 1.62" SWE. Jan 22 radar: https://cdn.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/3cc5880df4464dfb860bf89476ba6eeb/resources/TDhpdvxfPwDBBntlSTaAz.mp4
  6. It can hurt early in the season. October 2011 was a prime example when snow accumulated south of here, but not here. On 11/15/2018 I went for a late walk in Sunken Meadow. Down by the beach there was white rain, but uphill and back from the bluffs branches were starting to break out of the trees from the weight of the heavy wet snow. So the effect that day was literally on the "immediate" shore. In a normal year, the effect diminishes in December, but there hasn't been anything normal about this year. We accumulated a solid 1.0" here today, plus 0.2" yesterday, so at least we are on the board (1.2" season). I'd be happy with that if this was Myrtle Beach. My house is 2 miles from the Sound, but a little less than a mile from the estuarine part of the Nissequogue River, which is basically an extension of the Sound. My driveway is 122 feet ASL (the house behind me is about 40 feet lower). Another possible impact of the Sound being so close...the screaming winds off LI Sound in some of the more notable nor'easters are frequently not good for snow ratios. Many such storms Islip has done much better in terms of measured accumulations, but my SWE was higher. I'm only about 8-9 miles NW of ISP (as the jet flies; it seems a lot further when driving there).
  7. Light to moderate snow here and temp is down to 32. The street is beginning to cave. It's not out of the question we end up with an inch here, but we had two or more inches of snow twice last winter so no records for futility are not on the table.
  8. Pingers now. But we've got at least .1" Fun times. Happy shoveling on the mainland.
  9. It's trying, there are few larger flakes but the snow here remains quite light. There's now a slushy coating on the lawn, but not enough yet to call measurable. Temp down to 33.2
  10. Gotta take the opportunity, before having to confront actual verification, to gloat that in the last frame, all of NNJ and Rockland, and much of OC are mixed precip while it is still snowing here.
