  1. moderate rain with big drops, lightning and 34 here right now. so close and yet so far sigh
  2. well if it were 10 degrees colder it would be snowing lol. not surprised to see rain this morning - as eyewall and cheez said (and many of us who grew up here know) cold chasing rain is almost always a no-go
  3. There are quite a few of us here! It’s just not looking great for a lot of us. Precip either moves out or dries up east of atl - Gainesville -Cleveland. Looked better a couple of days ago
  4. 37/9 with clouds. woo hoo waiting for .10" ice - that is what this January has ended up being. sad lol
  5. 17 for a low this morning. Coldest of the winter so far
  6. Well we sort of dodged a bullet - 1” of rain from the storm. It was 31.5 so only about .20-.25” on the trees. The are bending noticeably but it just went above freezing. An inch of ice would have been a bit much lol
  7. Far ne ga it’s 31 with freezing rain. Light glaze on the trees, elevated surfaces
  8. It’s 31 with freezing rain here. About .10 inch on trees, deck etc. driveway just wet
  9. Light rain and sloooooowly dropping temp lol. It’s 34
  10. Mix of rain/sleet at 36. Not looking great for here for much here at the moment
  11. Dry here but cloudy. 35/20
  12. That is a lot of ice. There is a huge disconnect right now with tomorrow. Gap mentioned the high wasn’t too strong but the last time I checked it looked pretty decent. It’s not all that cold (upper 40s) but the dew point is 21
  13. I dont really know what to think at this point. This set up reminds me of one a while back where we ended up getting a ton of ice (the infamous "I hope you get an inch of ice" storm) when the forecast was a cold rain right up till the event started. After that over the years, a lot of times the set up seems to be there but for one reason or another we end up 33 or 34 and rain. The higher resolution models are showing a pretty big CAD, and the high seems to be in a pretty good location. It won't take much for NE GA an the upstate to get some ice, however, without much support from the other models I am just not sold on it at this point
  14. Back to mostly sleet here with in the last few minutes and just a little frz rn mixed in
  15. It is actually, esp with the ground covered in sleet/snow. I am one of the apparent few who likes all types of winter storms including freezing rain. Grew up in ga and ice after snow is not uncommon at all - I think it’s been a great storm for this area so far. Am amazed the models picked it up so early. From what I saw most of the week it is what I expected. With a CAD event I didn’t fall for the amounts of snow the models showed during the week lol. CAD screams ice for ne ga anyway
  16. Feeezing rain is still falling and about .25” on the trees. The snow and sleet has completely glazed over in the yards and street. Looks like there are quite a few outages around Habersham and Rabun Counties on the ga power website. So I would say that NE GA is having a pretty significant ice storm right now
  17. Just woke up to popping - power is out and trees/limbs are falling. Still have freezing rain falling with gust winds. Looks like the entire neighborhood is out
  18. Huge green flash as a transformer just blew - whole sky lit up as a big gust of wind went through.
  19. Yeah it did. It’s all frz rain here now - maybe .10 or so. Didn’t go out to actually measure.
  20. The bright reds in ne ga right now are freezing rain with a little sleet. Guess it’s a good thing it’s not in the mid 20s lol
  21. This obs thread is awesome! It’s great so many of us are getting clobbered and those lucky ones to witness thundersnow (I can count on one hand how many I have seen lol). The heavier bands here are snow/sleet. The moderate ones are freezing rain - getting a glaze and icicles on the trees now. What a great storm lol
  22. Your power is out? Ugh. So far so good here - I hope that stays up there lol. I am surprised the power hasn’t even blinked here which is unusual ( I live near a national forest with a ton of trees)
  23. Those in the upstate just wait til this stuff in n ga gets there. It’s absolutely pouring what looks like clumps of ice lol. Getting a trifecta mix and it’s really coming down. If this is snow where y’all are it will be amazing everything is covered now - yards and roads
  24. A lot have more to the obs thread since it’s nowcasting and happening now
