  1. It was more historic in the Ohio Valley. definitely a bit of a cold winter here, but snowfall itself was not impressive. There was a decent snowpack.
  2. A fierce blizzard. although only 5 inches of snowfall at Detroit temperatures plummeted to −16°.
  3. At Detroit, it was 6 inches of snow plus ice. The winter of 1978-79 actually had below average snowfall in Detroit (35.6"), while Chicago had records snowfall. Still with the bitter cold and snowcover it was a pretty harsh winter.
  4. Ten years ago, we had 16 inches of snow on the ground, -50° wind chills, and did not know at the time, but it was only the beginning.
  5. 10 years ago, today, we had −50° wind chills, 16" of snow on the ground... and it was only the beginning.
  6. Of course I'm jealous of our Chicago friends for Tuesday, but it's really looking to me similar to our March 3rd storm. It will be fun as hell when it's ongoing but there's really no cold air with it or behind it. However, whatever does happen next Friday and Saturday, there's a ton of cold air on its heels. Definitely potential.
  7. I'm just expecting slop here, much more interested in the following storm. I feel this will be Chicago's version of the heavy wet snow paste jobs Detroit got last January 25th and March 3rd.
  8. Only 1 week of model mayhem to go. It's funny that 7 days out, the Euro, GFS, and Canadian are shockingly similar. Im sure as we get closer they will diverge more.
  9. I'm cautiously optimistic, but yes, the parade of systems is beautiful to look at. Just hope that when the cold gets here we have a nice extended stretch of deep winter. give me a beautiful blanket of snow and the cold and freezing lakes, and I'll be happy. The modelled cold the 2nd half of January is actually quite impressive on the long-range ensembles.
  10. You would have enjoyed last winter in SE MI then. Multiple good cement snowstorms. ANY snow is better than no snow, and wet snow is beautiful, but Im a powder person lol.
  11. What is funny is our best snow of the season so far (1.7") was a snow squall warning Nov 27th. Glad there is plenty of potential in the upcoming pattern.
  12. I notice people who live in the country tend to just drive over a few inches of snow but in the suburbs people will shovel. My last shovelable 3"+ snowfall was 5.3" on March 10th.
  13. 3/3 was a wound up storm with blinding snow and lots of thundersnow in SE MI. Not a lot of cold air.
  14. I don't either. It was 1.7" of snow. Before that would be mid-March.
  15. 2021-22 was a decent winter here. And even last winter had multiple shovelable snows. That's why I was wondering how he hadn't shoveled in 2 years lol. I last shoveled Nov 28th lol
  16. The signal for cold towards mid january is extremely strong.
  17. In 2010 February was a very active month here. We had a light dusting of snow last night, which was the first white on the ground since Nov 30th. 5 days in Nov had some snow on the ground vs none in Dec. Better times ahead tho!
  18. I'm not sure what will end up happening, but the gfs has been hellbent on having an absolute parade of systems
  19. Alternating periods of freezing drizzle, drizzle, and snow showers today. Picked up a dusting earlier that melted, then another this evening. Did pick up 0.2 inches of snow in total, roads getting icy now. Should see the first sun of '24 tomorrow. So ready for the active weather to begin!
  20. Regardless of what happens locally next Tuesday, I'm loving the active look going forward. What a change from December.
  21. I saw that lol. That's what happens when you reply to posts as you go rather then read everything THEN reply
  22. Lmao. Pointing out a fact or weather statistic makes you a denier. What have I got to deny? I live in an area with 4 distinct seasons & do my part at being friendly to the environment. Im all good. I forget that posting weather stats on a weather board offends some.
  23. Plenty of specific (some no doubt frustrating) to be ironed out but just looking at the general long-range, what a change from just a week ago.. Winter is returning!
