  1. I forgot to mention so I'll mention now. Both the November 27th snowstorm and the December 5th rainstorm far exceeded forecast qpf locally. I am not just referring to a placement of a convective band or something, the systems turned out much more precipitation than was forecast. I bring it up because I figure this may be something to watch this Winter for some snowy surprises. The 4" Nov 27 snowfall saw 0.42" of liquid when all model QPF ranged from 0.1 to 0.25". As I recall modeled QPF for the rain on the 5th was between 0.25 and 0.5 but we ended up a 0.71".
  2. Had some blinding cellular snow squalls dot the area yesterday. Near white outs, then sun. I picked up 0.4" on the day, 7.1" on the season. DTW had 0.2", with 7.6" on the season. Missed a very hvy squall about 3 miles to my south in the evening, but it's nice to see the lakes churning again.
  3. I'm definitely ready for a big event. I didn't time the events but we had a few hrs of heavy snow here with the first storm (4 incher). It made for amazing scenes with christmas decor. I'd have to imagine big events are coming for the sub..but as you said...have to smell the rain. So when and where tbd.
  4. We just had a snowy week last week lol. Not a big storm...but starting the snow season well above normal when most aren't. Clearly I want snow not warmth, but laying down needed snow to the north is not a bad thing in early December.
  5. After 4-5 days of winter wonderland the snow entirely vanished overnight and the sw wind is screaming. Few piles left tho.
  6. Yes, I bought it in the Spring so this was my 1st fall and it did not disappoint. It turns various colors.
  7. Interesting data, I just looked it up and yes typically the 2 cities follow each other. I looked up all of the Novembers without measurable snow in Detroit, and only one of them had meaningful snowfall at Chicago, 1896 with 4.2".
  8. Yup! In this picture from last night. On the left hand side is a Norway spruce, white pine, and Birch. Then I have a huge Fur tree of some kind. To the right of that you see an autumn blaze Maple. Out of shot of the picture are two young trees, a balsam fir and a spruce. To the right of the walkway you see a young baby balsam Fir and to the left is the red pine pictured above.
  9. Red pine. Got it from up north. As if I didn't have enough trees in my backyard already lol.
  10. 1990s Decembers sucked here lol although of course I know your post was partially in jest. I cannot figure out why we have no problem lately getting unusually early snows, unusually late snow is, weenie heaven February's but December is often meh. But actually it would not be wise to write-off this December, the weeklies for the most part looked good.
  11. Detroit finishes November with 7.1" of snow, which ties with 1972 for the 15th snowiest November on record. Through the 26th only 0.9" of snow had fallen. Temperatures finished colder than average with precipitation below average, but neither made it anywhere near their respective top 20 list. I finished with 6.6" snow.
  12. Picked up 2" of wet snow last night. It was another gorgeous plastering snow but as soon as the snow stopped it began dripping off the trees. Wasn't as exciting as the 4" snow the other day, nor did it have as low of visibility. Much of the snowcover has melted with 40゚ today, about 1" left on average. Some 2" spots but also some bare spot. Definitely not a bad start till the season, but certainly hoping Winter kicks into high gear for the whole sub soon. The scenic nature of wet snow is photogenic to say the least, but I'm definitely a powder man...and a reminder to all here to all, Winter is only just beginning. Props to my mom for giving me the idea about my baby pine tree lol.
  13. Dtx didn't issue advisory with the 4pm update and now they did. Wonder what changed their mind?
  14. I can top that...I started shoveling then actually pulled out the snow blower. It was legit heart attack snow so I figured the snow blower would eat it up a lot easier than I could shovel it lol. Where's your girlfriend from?
  15. Wow I didn't realize that last Winter that way. We had plowable snows Dec 1, Dec 17, Dec 25. Tonight looking like a similar track to the last clipper. Quick hitter, thinking 2" with brief heavy rates. Yesterday's 4" compacted to 2-2.5" then froze into a crust this morning.
  16. Yes the squall was just light snow here. After legit snowstorm conditions last night no complaints...but it just shredded. I look forward to good arctic fronts this winter too.
  17. I finished with 0.42" liquid in the 4.1" snowfall. Model qpf ranged from 0.1-0.25" leading up to it. So I consider it an overperformer for sure. How did Frankenmuth do..maybe an inch? Awesome time to be up there.
  18. DTX getting a good start with Winter headlines. After yesterday's Winter Weather Advisory, they hoisted the newer "snow squall warning". That looks to fizzle a bit by the time it gets down here, but nevertheless it looks funny when you read the wording "a dangerous snow squall".
  19. Had a few good squalls this afternoon after a 4" snowfall last night...suddenly feels like mid Winter.
  20. Ended last season with a gorgeous 4.4" plaster snowfall Apr 20/21 and start the next season with a similar 4.1" snowfall Nov 27.
  21. Finished with a total fall of 4.1" of snow with 0.42" liquid equivalent. Snow did compact a little overnight as well as fall off the trees somewhat but still absolutely gorgeous scenes this morning. I November Winter wonderland to be sure. It was a general 2 to 4" snowfall for the Detroit area with the heaviest swath of 4 to 4.5" along i94 from ARB-DTW
  22. Certainly overperformed here. Ended last season with a 4.4" snow storm on April 20/21st and then now getting a 4.0" snow storm to start a new season on November 27th. Pretty nice. We had a few slushy tents of an inch earlier in November but this is real Winter wonderland stuff.
