  1. What a truly special summer. Couldn't draw up a better one. We might not experience this again in our lifetimes..
  2. Reminds me of my summer in Santa Monica 27 years ago. I went "skiing" in the morning and hit the beach in the afternoon but never left the beach...

  6. I was just reading on Facebook there are a ton of docks, boats, logs, etc floating out in the sound at the mouth of the CT.
  7. Do most of you Vermonters have flood insurance? Regular homeowners doesn't usually cover flood damage. Manu people are going to be faced with fixing their homes out-of pocket if they didn't have flood insurance. Also, it's probably going to be impossible to find contractors to fix a lot of this stuff up. Imagine how many electricians, drywall installers, carpenters, etc are going to be needed to fix/check all these flooded homes.
  8. Drone footage of flooding in Barre. https://youtu.be/bFb0ChSrKx4
  9. MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - The Winooski River in Montpelier has surpassed Tropical Storm Irene levels, and city manager William Fraser says the Wrightsville Dam is nearing capacity. Fraser says if the water exceeds capacity in the Wrightsville Dam, it will spill into the North Branch River. He adds that would be the first time it’s happened since the dam was built, so there is no precedent for potential damage. Fraser also says there are very few evacuation options remaining, so people in at-risk areas may wish to go to upper floors in their houses. https://www.wcax.com/2023/07/11/montpelier-city-manager-warns-potential-wrightsville-dam-failure-flood-continue/

  13. My mother in law got this Canoe for $200 yesterday at an estate sale in NJ. I don't think it's ever been in the water.

  15. Here in Southern CT we were hit by EAB hard around 8-10 years ago. There is essentially no more ash trees around here. Even young 2-3 inch tees don't make it. I have been treating my 125+ year old green ash tree for the last 10 years against EAB. I lost another one of similar size and counted the rings and compared size to estimate the age of this one. The first 4 years I used an imdicalprod soil drench but have since switched over to treeage Injections from an arborist every 2 years. The active ingredient is Emamectin Benzoate which is way better than using imdicalprod. Cost $300 every 2 years compared to the $3k I spent removing the other ash I'll keep treating for awhile. There is still some thinning and dead branches but she's still holding on this year. This picture was also taken awhile back when it just leafed out.
