  1. Its been an absolute furnace down here. I haven't even come remotely close to a frost/freeze. Plants and animals are confused and spring bulbs are coming up.. lol Check out this picture of the Guiilford green posted on Reddit yesterday.
  2. The maples just started showing some color here. Leaf cleanup is still weeks away here. People are still mowing their lawns here every week.
  3. Seems like the warmth is really over performing here. A lot of places are close to 70 already.
  4. With record high heating costs I think most people are enjoying this nice warm start to November. Also, this weeks mild warm up is nothing compared to last November here. I recall some spots in SW CT hitting 80.
  5. Its been one of my best years for solar production in the 6 years I have had my panels. You just got your panels right? You made a great investment. Eversource just got approved for a 64% price increase Jan 1st.
  6. Bolton Farms at 750ft still farming...
  7. Everything is still growing on the shoreline. Spring bulbs are coming up. I haven't even come remotely come close to a freeze yet. The maples are just starting to change here. Everyone is still mowing around here and leaf cleanup is weeks away.
  8. Some low 20s on Long Island while its mid 40s on the north shore.
  9. Looks like Eversource is raising electricity supply rates 64% in Connecticut due to record high natural gas prices. On top of record high heating costs its going to be a rough winter for many when the cold comes. https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Eversource-UI-customers-will-pay-more-in-16595228.php?src=rdctpdensecp
  10. Yep. Looking forward to my 60's all next week.
  11. 39 for the low. The palms are just starting to show some colors.
  12. HVN's not on here but they were +6.5.
  13. Yeah. From Don in the NYC thread. Numerous locations in the region saw their warmest monthly minimum temperature on record for October. Those locations included: Atlantic City: 41° (old record: 40°, 2004) Bangor: 35° (old record: 34°, 1968 and 1989) Bridgeport: 43° (old record: 41°, 2004) Harrisburg: 43° (tied record set in 1984) Islip: 42° (old record: 40°, 1971 and 2017) Mount Pocono, PA: 35° (old record: 34°, 1920) New Haven: 42° (old record: 39°, 2014) New York City-JFK: 47° (old record: 46°, 1971) New York City-LGA: 49° (old record: 47°, 1971) New York City-NYC: 47° (old record: 45°, 1946 and 1971) Newark: 45° (tied record set in 1971) Philadelphia: 46° (old record: 45°, 1882, 1927 and 1931) Providence: 41° (old record: 39°, 1971) Scranton: 38° (old record: 36°, 1971) Sterling, VA: 39° (old record: 37°, 1971) Syracuse: 36° (tied record set in 1971) Washington, DC: 47° (old record: 46°, 1971 and 1984) Wilmington, DE: 43° (old record: 41°, 1971)
  14. How does one get the data for warmest autumn? HVN and BDR are certainly having one of their warmest autumns on record. HVN was +6.5 and BDR +4.7 for Oct.
  15. Look at the field. Those cows are so fat from all that lush grass they can't even stand. Lol
  16. +6.5 here. Whats more impressive is the CDD/HDD (cooling/heating degree days). 18 CDD compared with a normal of 10. 127 HDD with a normal of 331. 2021 shattered a record at KHVN for highest CDD and lowest HDD.
  17. Hydrangeas blooming while putting the pumpkins out?
  18. I have lived on the CT shoreline for 40 years. Every year it gets warmer and warmer. I don't think people realize how insanely warm its been here the last decade. Cactus are flowering here...
  19. A nice warm start to November here with another almost +20 departure on the overnight low...
  20. Its unreal down here on the shoreline. Its like spring with plants flowering again. My neighbor said her tulips were coming up. A friend who owns a landscaping company said they are still mowing. My low for October has only been 46. Leaf cleanups will be around Thanksgiving here.
  21. Took this picture this morning at sunrise when I let the dog out. I'm still mowing every 3-4 days here and the maples just started changing... My overnight low was 58 and my low for the month is 46. My garden is still going strong. Best year ever for my cannabis as well.
  22. To those looking for a generator spend the extra and get an inverter. A regular generator runs at a fixed speed of 3600 rpms and guzzles down gas. A large 7500 watt can suck down its 5 gallon tank in hours. Inverters can adjust the engine speed to the load down to a few hundred rpms. The fuels savings is insane. Your gas will last like 4 to 5 times longer. Inverters also deliver extremely clean electricty and are way better for electronics. I have the 2000 watt $500 HB inverter. It holds like a gallon of gas and can power low loads like your fridge, microwave, window ac, chargers etc all day. Its nuts how long a gallon of gas lasts. Also great for camping and tailgating.
  23. I volunteer for the local land trust doing trail maintenance and was working on this shoreline property yesterday. I was talking to a local 83 year old retired Yale professor of plant biology. He said he has never seen anything like this. We were in a swamp and he said it looked like spring. Skunk cabbage and all other species of plants that normally sprout early spring were sprouting again. Everything is still pretty much green here.
  24. Do you already have ductwork? If you do a whole house system like the bosch is definitely the way to go. The other upside of heat pumps is electricity is extremely stable in price as its regulated by the state. In CT the rates are changed on July 1st and Jan 1st. They are often increased or lowered by just 5-10%. I just watched a billboard for heating oil go from $2.29 to over $3 in a few weeks.
