  1. Some serious ice damming on that roof from poor or no attic insulation.
  2. It is a little past the middle of November. Here is a summary of the month so far in terms of average temperature departures from normal and the daily high temperatures for Central Park.
  3. A nice CT shoreline torch. 46 here on ssw winds.
  4. It makes total sense in todays world. You completely eliminated the high new england labor cost of snow/ice removal and the big lawsuits. My sister is a lawyer. How it works is everyone sues for everything even if its completely your fault. Its cheaper to just pay out then spending 300 an hour on lawyers for months to litigate it. You slip on ice its cheaper to say heres 50k we will settle it now. Thre statistic is like 80% of people will just take the first quick payout and its over.
  5. Temps just jumped like 15 degrees here along the coast on sw winds. That 29 is busting hard.
  6. You should try dabbing. You heat up a poppy seed size drop of pure 90-95% thc and inhale it. Most weed is like around 25% or less. I guarantee you will feel it. Lol
  7. Picture from Hamden during that storm. There are 2 cars buried in there with the wipers just sticking up.
  8. How often did you water it? New grass needs an insane amount of water for the roots to establish and grow deep. Looks like most of the dead section is on higher ground and the soil is probably bone dry.
  9. What a storm in North Dakota. Seems this is a pretty rare event. Stronger winds and a secondary batch of snow is expected on Friday into at least early Saturday. This combination is expected to be crippling, especially for that Cooperstown to Devils Lake to Langdon corridor. For that reason, a blizzard warning was issued for this time frame. Impacts are hard to imagine, as these type of snow amounts and winds are incredibly rare. Have mentioned 1 to 3 feet of snow being possible in the blizzard warning area, with large, impassable drifts expected as well. This will not be an event where a uniform amount of snow is deposited, and is easily measured. Just like any blizzard, there may be little snow in open areas, and huge drifts nearby. Impacts should be a little less in the Red River Valley, and even lower moving east of the Red River Valley into Minnesota. Since the area east of the Red River Valley may not see snow until Friday morning, left the watch in effect for now.
  10. There is a rumor on a bunch of aviation forums that the plane was filled with jet fuel instead of aviation gas. On the ATC recordings they report problems with engine 4 and its thought they lost engine 3 on the same wing coming back in. With 2 engines on the other wing running the plane pulled hard right and crashed.
  11. There was an aerial plane survey done after the 38 hurricane. Pages 12-14 have some of the RI coastline. That area got hit hard. http://cslib.cdmhost.com/digital/collection/p4005coll10/search/searchterm/Aerial survey!index sheet!1938/field/title!title!title/mode/exact!none!exact/conn/and!and!and/order/title/ad/asc
  12. Some potential tonight for a possible viewing.
  13. There is no stopping it from what I have read. Billions of native ash will be wiped out. Only hope is to create new ash strains resistant to eab and introduce those into the wild. I believe they did something similar with elm trees where they created a Dutch elm disease resistant tree.
  14. Is Emerald Ash Borer up there yet? I would start treating it if you intend to keep it. I have been keeping mine alive by soil drench with insecticide. Cost like 5 bucks to treat it yourself with the same stuff the pros use thats available online. The ash are pretty close to wiped out here in CT. Here was an ash stand I drove by today. There are whole tracts all over the state that look like this. It looks terrible.
  15. I am trying to save my other ash and I started treating it with a insecticide soil drench a few years ago. Cost about $10 a year to treat with a professional grade insecticide available online. They trimmed some dead branches off it but the crown is really healthy still. The other picture is the tree that was taken down. Notice the entire crown is dead and when that happens there is no saving it. Just about every ash around me is dead so this may be one of the few still alive and doing well in the area.
  16. My dying ash tree was taken down Monday. I had them leave the wood for my wood stove. Love burning in the winter. Had to break up the main trunk with a sledge and maul as they were to massive to move. Those that burn know how back braking using a maul is especially in this heat.
  17. Its really strange. Literally havent seen a single one. Heard from many other people in CT the same thing. Something must have wiped most of them out. I have seen a huge increase in red tailed hawks?
  18. Anyone else notice there are like zero chipmunks this year? I usually have like half a dozen terrorizing my yard. Havent seen a single one yet this year.
  19. Emerald Ash Borer completely killed my 2 green ash trees my uncle planted in 1958. They were awesome old trees with cool low branches. Its insane how quick they die once they are attacked. Ash trees will be extinct soon as there is no defense against them except treating with insecticide.
  20. This has been like the ultimate lawn growing weather. Lawns everywhere look like Ireland or the Pacific northwest. I read this Pacific Northwest type weather has been perfect for grass. Cool temps, ton of rain and a day or two of sun here and there. Most grass thrives in cooler temps in the 40-60 degree range. Look at your bag of grass seed and I bet the seeds are from WA or OR. Its like the ultimate grass growing climate. Get that seed down. Stuff I seeded last month has exploded in growth.
  21. With all the technology out there where are the automatic snow depth sensors? Infared triangulation and ultrasonic sensors are extremely accurate and cheap.
