  1. Where are you? NY? My water bill in CT is $100-150 every 4 months and I water the hell out of my plants and lawn.
  2. I highly recommend if you have trees that can fall on your house get them removed. I know of 2 people that had huge oak trees fall on their homes in the recent storm. They are being told to find somewhere to live for up to 4 months. There is nobody available to fix them.
  3. My friend owns a pool company and has been working 7 days a week all summer. He has deposits down through next summer. Said there aren't enough pool companies for the demand.
  4. Looks like fall around here. This is on 95 in East Haven.
  5. Salt damage. It's really bad along the shoreline. My house and windows are covered in white salt residue.
  6. Special one even on the shoreline
  7. Thats right I think I read that here. I have been tempted to plant a Tulip Poplar. They can get insanely big. I don't think they grow north of the CT coastline. This one is around the corner from me and there are a few saplings in the ground nearby. It has to be 150+ years old.
  8. I have been using a bottle of Dominion 2l that cost like 25$. Depending on the tree size its really cheap to treat them. The other Ash tree was like 2500$ to cut down so it seems worth it. I read last year they genetically modified american chestnuts against the blight. I thought I read they were going to have them available soon. I am going to have the ash stump removed and plant another tree. Will have to look into doing a chestnut if they are available.
  9. I had 2 100+ year old green ash trees that I have been treating with a soil drench of insecticide against EAB for the last 5 years. One didn't make it and the canopy completely died so I had it cut down last fall and the other one trimmed. I counted the rings on the stump and it was over 100 years old. The arborist from the tree company said he has seen some older ash show some resistance to EAB. Every single Ash has been completely killed around here from the Emerald Ash Borer. Nice to see this one still hanging in there. It's such a cool looking tree. It was also cool to see the shoot from the old stump come up this spring.
  10. Another band about to roll through CT. I'm right on the sound in Branford. 36 and a nice squall just rolled through and coated everything. Impressive for this time of year.
  11. Even had snow showers here in Branford right on the water this afternoon. Had ice on the deck this morning and it looks like my hydrangeas and some other stuff got wiped out. Plants have been really early here this year.
  12. Even had snow showers here in Branford right on the water. Had ice on the deck last night and it looks like my hydrangeas and some other stuff got wiped out. Stuff has been blooming here crazy early this year.
  13. First mow of the season and Maple trees are leafing out here on the shoreline in Branford.
  14. Some potential tonight for a possible viewing.
  15. Jet Blue 1098 is my flight tomorrow at 530 pm.
  16. I am in DC for a wedding tonight and have a jetblue flight back to Hartford from Reagan airport at 5 pm tomorrow. Thoughts on that flight happening? We were planning on taking a cab or uber to the airport. Looking forward to the storm though. Its been pretty much snowless back home in CT.
  17. This is done for central and western CT. People reporting on Facebook it's full sun in western ct.
  18. WTNH just downgraded a good chunk of CT to 0-3 inches. This is busting huge out this way.
  19. February 9th 2013 woke up to this in Wallingford, CT.....
  20. Just got a ton of reports from friends//family of some good sightings of the Orionid Meteors tonight along the CT shoreline. One of the year's best sky shows will peak this weekend between Oct. 20 and 22, when the Orionid meteor shower reaches its best viewing. The meteors that streak across the sky are some of the fastest and brightest among meteor showers, because the Earth is hitting a stream of particles almost head on. https://www.space.com/34373-orionid-meteor-shower-guide.html
  21. I lived in South Hero for a few years. The causeway is a good spot for viewing. Saw the lights a few times from there. Awesome wide open view looking north.
  22. Wallingford, CT Feb 8-9 2013 Noreaster/blizzard. A storm I will never forget.
