  1. 4/1/97 was warm to rain then flip and !THUMP! 17" in a couple of hours. What a storm that was.

Now my power restoration status is back to "assessing' :( I was out driving around scrounging firewood from cut up downed trees and all.of a sudden the power lines next to me started bouncing, probably 6-8 feet! It snapped two poles off and the lines came crashing to the ground and took a transformer with them. All I could figure was someone cut a tree off the line further down the block and released the tension and sproing <> chaos. 30 minutes later our status went from Tuesday to unknown. Grrrr

That’s terrible...I’m sorry! I hope you can get some firewood. We don’t even have a restore time update, which is making me nervous. Hopefully now that the winds are gone they can get out to assess, etc.

I think I'm going to go to BJ's in a little while and get a few boxes of Duraflame logs, those buggers burn really hot.  Yeah there's a wee bit of comfort in having a restoration time rather than your situation. Good luck!

Yep, been down that road. Even when I get the generator running my well water comes from outside my house, I have no control over the pump. Hopefully you have enough snow to melt for the toilet. The forecast here is to only go below freezing for a couple to few hours before dawn tonight. Hopefully you’ll be ok and get the power back sometime tomorrow. Sunday night looks a few degrees colder with more time below below freezing.

At least this time I filled 3 5 gallon buckets before the storm so we'd have water to flush with. I'm hoping it doesn't get cold enough for long enough to be a problem.

No power means no internet and my kids have assignments due tomorrow night so now I have to take them back to school today so they can get them in on time. Uggh, back to Poughkeepsie... again.

  3. Using a composite from sites within 20 miles of my house puts me at 29". That's about 19" below average for the 22 years that I've lived here. Bringing that back to the early 70's I'd be about 13" below average. If the hype for the next few weeks is right there may just be a chance to get to average. The number of days of consistent snowcover is pretty weak though.

  4. Yup hit 80 here at the house. It was kinda nice to do some early yard cleanup in a t-shirt without the bugs and such.

I'm hoping that we see a reasonable storm as the -nao sets in then another as it pulls out. I'm not looking forward to the mixed up frozen mess that's being forecasted for the next few days though. After it does leave though I think I'll be done with this winter, heck I could be done with it today actually ;) especially after home heating oil jumped almost $.50 today :(
