  1. Warmest I saw anywhere today was 97 but I got home around 3:00 and didn't go back out once I hit the central ac. I was between home, lower Westchester, all over Fairfield County and back through northern Westchester then home. I kept checking the car thermo every few minutes because I really wanted to see 100 somewhere. I figured if it was going to be that uncomfortable it ought to hit 100 just because.

Whadday'all think the chances of that T-storm line across central NY makes it this way today? I see a chance of storms in the p&c for tomorrow but nothing for tonight.

The noise and flashes of light should’ve given it away.

It's in my town, sort of, but about 10 miles away and on the other side of a small range of hills. That and I wasn't paying attention at all.

They've been doing them there forever afaik. While not as nice a setting, the Town of Southeast fireworks are tonight in Brewster... that was a very good show when I last helped fire it a few years ago. The DeCicco's/Eveready parking lot is where spectators conventionally congregate, but I'm sure there are some nice secluded spots to watch it from. Maybe the reservoir footpath causeway?

Yeah they have I just didn't notice any ads or signs for it. Sometimes I'm a little bit oblivious to local goings on. We haven't seen the Brewster show in a few years maybe we'll take a ride over and see them tonight. Thanks.

The Euro and Canadian are starting to look pretty blissful this weekend, with highs in the U70s and low, low dews both days. GFS follows suit synoptically but the output is ruined by its BL antics. The cold front has legs.

Oooh that's going to feel great.

  3. Hey NNEers I'm going to be up in the NEK for 4 days starting tomorrow and I'll be outdoors the entire time with no way to be indoors. Other than Thurs and Fri nights being a bit on the cool side do you think that the wetness forecast for Saturday and Sunday going to be significant or just a nuisance?  I'm trying to figure out what to pack...

  4. I've had that happen and yeah it's disconcerting to say the least. About 15 years ago I was riding up a long hill, it was one of those hot and sweaty late afternoons in the high 90's and super humid, I got to the top and stopped to take a break and it was dead silent with no wind at all. A minute later a big black bear walked out and onto the trail about 15 feet in front of me and I nearly pooped in my pants. I must have gasped a little and it turned and stared right at me so I lifted my bike over my head and it did that puppy thing where they tilt their heads and look at you all cutesy like. Right then a little breath of wind came up the hill behind me and my sweaty scent made its way to the bear, it wrinkled its nose and grunted then turned and trotted off. Stinky mt biker 1, bear 0.

  5. What a beautiful day it was as you went north and uphill. When I left home this morning around 10 it was still grey and humid but by the time I crested the Taconics it was dry, sunny and breezy. It was gorgeous all the way up the Parkway, across the river and up into the high peaks area of the Catskills and then it actually got hot by the time I got back down into Kingston in the late afternoon. Not looking forward to a couple more dreary days ahead :(

  6. What a mess. Not quite as many trees down as in the early March storm but some big, old hardwoods this time as opposed to the mostly pines that went down last time. There were a couple of big transformer explosions, two on my street alone and they're still going down around the hill occasionally because there are a lot of trees on the lines stressing things badly. F NYSEG and their piss poor maintenance and refusal to cut trees that have the potential to cause problems :fulltilt:

About 12 acres. Most of it goes unused which is why things can remain out of sight for a while, and the steep slope/maze of trees makes the mowing more time-intensive than it should be.

Nice. My hope for our next place when we finally get to move out of this suburban ick is to have a few acres that backs up to 'never to be developed' forest of some sort. I want to be able to ride my bike out the door and not have to be concerned with nosy neighbors with nothing better to do than whine about what I do or don't do. I also want to be able to have enough room to have my own playground right outside the door and an open hillside is part of that plan, if there's a couple of hundred vertical feet of north facing wooded hillside to ski on that would be a best case scenario. Yup, never get old :)

  8. How warm did we get today? I saw high 80's on a couple of bank thermo's and 91 in my car. I went for a mt bike ride and it sure didn't seem that warm but it was really dry so that helps it to feel a bit cooler. Boy the woods dried out in a hurry with these couple of dry days. Soil moisture seems to be holding up well 1" down but the surface is crackly and dusty already.

Snow mentioned for tonight in my P&C. Heavy heavy prozac.

I saw flakes a few times between here and Poughkeepsie tonight and right around sunset it sure looked like the Catskills High Peaks area was getting it good when I came over the Taconic Crest on 84. I know it was coming down hard up in the Daks and central/northern Greens this afternoon.
