  1. What a difference in rainfall around the town from the storm that moved through this afternoon. It came in hard and fast with torrential rates, couldn't see across the parking lot at Stop and Shop for about 4 minutes and very heavy for about 10 minutes overall with lots of lightning and strong winds. 1.5 miles WSW of where I was there was .03", a few blocks from where I was .24" and 2 miles ENE was .55". Strangely enough none of those 3 stations showed much for wind, 10 or less, but I know that it was easily over 20 and probably closer to 30mph gusts for 3-5 minutes and the lightning tracker I just looked at didn't show anything in the area but we all saw it with one strike in the shopping center lot that set off car alarms. Anyway, great quick hitter storm that was fun to be outside but under a roof in.

  2. ^^ I would think that would be dependent on what's going on at that moment. If it's spewing you'll see it from a reasonable distance, if it's night time I expect that you'd see the ground glowing from fairly far out also. From most of what I've seen it's just oozing or a smoky gas release so that would be hard to see unless it's a really smoky moment.

I am currently out west in Arizona chasing monsoons. It is pretty amazing.7NrU9Zb.jpg

I bet you're also getting some pretty good shots of the Perseid meteor showers. My favorite monsoon events when I lived out there were always at high elevations. I remember some devastatingly heavy rainfall periods in the mountains above Flagstaff and along the Continental Divide in Colorado the chaos was intense.

You guys know how to search this stuff... do you know if Mahopac, NY recorded any rain this Sunday?

I wasn't home for most of the day but it did rain here early in the morning and then stayed wet until about 10 and then there were a few very light showers around 6pm but nothing of any real consequence on Sunday, Saturday was very wet with several rounds of heavy rain. We are exactly halfway between the Somers and Brewster Mesonet stations so you can get a very good idea what's going on here using those two and there are a couple of WU stations here in town that you can use too.

  5. ~1" today and a bit last night. I'm glad I put in the effort and mowed yesterday. It took me over 2 hours to do what usually takes about 20 minutes, had to fill the tank on the mower twice and it usually uses less than half of one. I had to make 4 passes on most of it and 5 on parts just to get it down to a reasonably even level because it's so wet underneath. The backyard is about 6" high and too soggy to walk on so it's gonna be a while until that gets done but the neighbor was giving me **** about the front so I had to deal with it.

I'm officially over this stuff, can we please move on to fall and winter now?  #bringbackthedrought

pitch black outside here in white plains, storms are just to my north.

And it's still dry here 25 miles north of WP, it's dark grey to my south but not as bad as it has been a few times recently. I'm really hoping it stalls along the boundary that appears to have set up in between us.
