  1. I was out on the tennis court with my daughter a while ago and right around noon the clouds all of a sudden popped and started growing up quickly. At the same time the humidity jumped and the temp did too. It was like a cap had been lifted. Now it's mostly cloudy with dark clouds instead of this mornings puffy ones rather than mostly sunny and the air went stale and got heavy.

  2. Running out my door, jumping off the front step into the snow and it was over my head! I remember freaking out and screaming bloody murder while my dad stood there howling with laughter  I want to say January or February 1970 but it could have been 1969, at ~3 years old those memories are kind of fuzzy ;)  In the winter of 75/76 on LI we had a couple of nickle and dime events with good dynamics that intrigued me enough to start paying attention and then 77/78 just nailed it with the two storms that both put down over a foot on the south shore.

Yea that makes sense. I agree. Ignore half the data to feed the coolista agenda. Why use actual science?

Sarcasmometer recalibration maybe B)  What I'm getting at is that it hasn't been overly hot during the day compared to previous warm periods, the same way that we've been setting winter records where the days haven't been 'warm' but the nights haven't been as cold. I do understand though that this is what melts ice caps and warms bodies of water and creates the warming environment around them. It feels like cheating though as I want to see the big departures at the high end rather than incremental changes at the low end.

First time since the 1960's that so many of our stations had the July monthly high temperature on the 1st. Complete reversal from winter when the first week of January was our coldest week.

    NYC....96....7/1

    LGA....97.....7/1.....7/10

    EWR...98.....7/1

    JFK....94......7/1

    ISP...95.......7/1

    BDR..92.......7/1....7/10

Weather phenomena doesn't care what the human calendar dates are. First week, last week, blah blah ;)

Have had intermittent downpours here for the last 36 hours. 30 seconds of pouring rain, then it stops and 15 minutes later again. Very squally.

For me that's been the worst part of this whole event. I don't mind a concentrated wet period so much but the random aspect of this has been demoralizing. You can't do anything outside because all of a sudden it gets wet.

That rain plume running up the Thruway corridor this morning looks like a real soaker.

  6. Yeah it was soooo nice out there and the dirt was sooo good. I'll hit a ride up in VT today but I have a feeling that's the last really great one until next weekend at best. Looking like most of us in this discussion are going to see between 2-8" of rain before the week is over. I am wondering how far inland this ends up being a real thing though. Some of what I'm seeing looks like I88 might be the break line between terrible and just a wet(ish) summer week. If that's the case I'm heading NW ;)
