Pretty decent storm in rockland. Guess it doesnt count though.
I had some rumbles and heavy enough rain to make the gutter overflow but nothing too terrible, ~.35".
-
Wouldn't want the sun to get in the way of a rainy afternoon. Again
-
So much for heating things up, it just rained for a bit and now it's super muggy and overcast.
-
Looking through the list that Don posted above it's strange that all around me reported over 2" but the closest station on the list in Croton Falls was only 1". Looking through a variety of other sources everything was over 2" also so I guess that one gets tossed...
-
Sun is out now. The wind is up a bit so there's plenty of air movement mixing things up. The ground is steaming from all the rain yesterday. Lets heat this place up and add some fuel for the storms later.

Danbury had 8 'days' with 2"+ in 2010 per xmACIS, but I'm not sure whether that's for days ending at midnight local or 12z. It would also probably be more useful to know 2"+ in any 24-hour period, but alas I wouldn't know where to begin looking for that. So this stat really tells us nothing.
Stats are what you make of them. Gotta start somewhere.
Sun is out now here, lets heat this place up and build up some fuel for the storms later

Sprain, Bronx River, Hutch, Saw Mill Pkwys all have sections closed for flooding.
Rain has been relentless between moderate and heavy since noon.
I guess they should have put the parkways somewhere other than over and next to rivers.
I'm at ~1.8" so far for the day.
-
1.8 and still raining steadily, looks like another 2" day today. I wonder what the record is for days with 2" in a calendar year.
-
Up to 1.6" here now
-
Over 1" here too. Looks like 1.05 or so is the median of the local stations. This number will increase quickly over the next little while here. It's really coming down hard.

Thanks! Yeah looking at the cloud cover data it has been pretty impressive for awhile. Hopefully we don’t flip to dry and snowless for summer, but we will see. Even though I do not think I will be able to get out skiing this year (just welcomed my son into the world), I do love a nice bluebird winter day with great snow cover.
?? Heheh. You'll manage to get out, trust me at some point your wife will tell you to get out of her way and go do something

I had to go to the field station a bunch further upstate and going from the city, I was amazed how different the days were. I would look at beach webcams and what not and it would be clear on the south shore and cloudy upstate. Just impressive dynamics really this summer with those dews.
That 117 number BW posted is way short of what it's been up here just 60 miles from midtown. I'd add another 50 to that easily but that's just anecdotal from looking at cams and such.

Are you new to this area? Weather has been pretty typical so far this year.
See below
Just now, JustinRP37 said:Born and raised here... This summer was not typical of this area, sorry to say. Quick look at hours of dews above 70 and cloud cover for the summer will quickly show you this was not a “typical” summer.
Yup the percentage of cloud cover during daylight hours has been exceptionally high this year going all the way back to March.

It sure would be nice to have a wall to wall sunny day for a change, especially now that it's not likely to be 90+ degrees.

@SnowGoose69 I know that as my kids reached their teen years it became even more important for one of us to be available to be the shuttle driver to move them from one after school activity to another. I have twins so much of their activities were shared but hers being a variety of ages have things going on in different places around town at different times so it's nearly impossible for them to be active without a parent that's able to do all that running around.

I had all my bedroom windows open last with the ceiling fans going, got down to 64 in there by this morning. Hoping for cooler than that tonight.
Cooler in the house than 64? Your lower back must be younger than mine

Halloween will get snowed out again for the third time this decade.

I dunno about that, it's 63 in my living room right now.

Looks like snow in the forecast in/near Portland ME tonight

Irene was a disaster away from the coast, especially as you got up into the Catskills, Berks and Greens. The flooding and attendant damage was unreal.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing another one the day before Thanksgiving where I get 10" of cement that shuts down the drunken stupidity like we got in 2014.

really moving north quickly-some showers already into south Jersey
I was in a very heavy (short) downpour in Mamaroneck this afternoon. It cleaned all the bugs off the front of the car and windshield
I need to do what amounts to a lap of CT tomorrow. I'm hoping it's not wall to wall rain all day.

It sure doesn't seem like it has been warm. The lack of sun for 3 weeks straight will do that though... These warm minimums are killing me because they don't really tell the whole story, stats are what you make of them I guess.
