That's all December was, pennies though not nickels. I had a total of 1" for the month and it snowed 4 or 5 times. At least I can call January 5" That puts me at 13" for the season so far, not sure where that puts me in relation to last year. Yup I was looking at how much the ice surfaces melted on the lakes and reservoirs today and thinking it will be gone in just a few days. It really does feel like winters back is broken. I didn't have that feeling last year when we struggled through 6 weeks of non winter in the middle of the season though.

I didn't check for the low but it was 11* at 1am when we got home from a show.
33* this afternoon feels like springtime
-
Much warmer this morning than yesterday, it's 7*.

I think we went 5 weeks without a drop of precip. It was right as the forests were sucking the ground dry as they leafed out and things were dusty before Memorial Day. There was some awesome early season mt bike conditions from early Feb right into summer.

The last real spring was 2012. I'd take one of those again.

-4 @ 7am, I don't know if it was colder before that. That's still about 10 degrees warmer than the lowest low last year. ~13" of snowfall for the season so far, not feeling another 3' before it's all over so chances of making it to average are slim this year.

actually it not being hostile to snow makes the winter worse, there's been money sucking cold dry air like there was in the 80s, winters like these are why people hated the 80s so much.
There were plenty of other reasons to have disliked the 80's too.

-4 here too. Nice sunrise.

That was a fun inch.
Next.

Winding down now. Looks like I'll finish with right about 1". That was fun.

Wow good little storm rolling through. Lowest visibility in a few years.
-
Visibility is down to less than 200 feet now. Boom.
-
From flurries to can barely see 250 feet in less than a minute and the wind is howling.

I have light snow starting to fall now. Clouds have been lowering and thickening for the last half hour or so. It looks like the main body of the squall line is still west of the river.

I'm trying to think of a good spot with unobstructed western views to watch it arrive
The road over the Gunks has an awesome view to the west after you crest the top. There are also two view spots on the Taconic with long views all the way back across the river to the high peaks of the Catskills that are great for something like what you want to do.

A very odd month. Add in the next two days and it will finish near normal temperature wise, in addition 15 days above normal and 16 days below, and snowfall wise a total dud in the immediate NYC area. Places N & W did close to average snowfall wise this month.
Some places... If I put the last storm down as the ~4" before the change to freezing rain then I'm at about 4.5" for the month. That doesn't speak to how difficult the conditions have been for a good number of days though and will be today and tomorrow. Hopefully I can pull a few inches this afternoon but I don't think there's even a remote chance to get to 10" for the month.

Eek what a crusty icy mess out there.

I'd love to go scrape this stuff off the driveway but the wife won't let me. Good thing I have a few buckets of sand and salt mixture.
-
It's just about over now, 1/2" of white crusted slush on everything and it's freezing up. The upside is it will be cool to look at in the morning, it's going to be sketchy but it'll look good.
-
Accidents are fun... Glad she's alright.
Now it's big flakes but after a few hours of rain, and it's still 34*, over the .3/.4 from this afternoon over frozen ground I have a nice .2-.3" deep layer of slush on everything. This carp is going to freeze up hard.

Now it's big flakes accumulating white rain. I went out and the driveway and street are a couple of tenths of slush that splashes when you step down. This stuff ought to freeze up really well in a few hours
