Calcium Chloride is your friend. Non corrosive and salt will be useless with tonight's temps.
That's what I got. When you're in a watershed zone you have to be careful or the fines are onerous.

Go to my account, then my attachments and delete the old files. I had to figure that out in November.
That's too bad, I had some cool pics in there.
Didn't work I still can't upload any of the pics I took today because they're apparently too big. Oh well...

I'd love to upload some pics but can't figure out how to get them down to under 1.95mb. I have my camera set at the lowest resolution possible. I used to use photobucket but that went south...

I made my own salt/sand mix. We got 100 pounds of sand and 80 pounds of salt and mixed them about 50/50. It seems to be working pretty well.
Looks like the rain is stopping now, hopefully that's it as the temp is still dropping.

While granted I might be minimizing a bit a couple posters IMO are over stating the impacts. Yeah it's a bit rough but it's the HV .3" of accretion really isn't a big deal. Some branches surely snapped and there are localized power outages but some people make this out to be a crippling ice storm.
You're kidding right? I've got trees falling, 2 ton branches falling and a tangled mess of isht in my yard. An 80 footer a few feet from my (dead end) corner went down about 20 minutes ago and is partially blocking the street. It's getting real out there man and people are going to have problems and get hurt especially if the power goes out and we go to 0*.

? It's true. Could've easily had major widespread issues. Haven't really seen anyone here report more than .3" of accretion. With the amount of precip by in large most people got lucky.
.3 with the wind coming up, a couple of inches of slush about to turn into a solid block, it's still raining pretty hard and the temps are dropping are the ingredients for the recipe for disaster. This rain/storm cancel trolling BS is really annoying.
-
It's still raining pretty hard here and the temp has dropped to 30, a few local stations are showing 29. The ice just keeps getting thicker Tree limbs are hanging down to the ground now all around, it's just a matter of time before the power goes out.
-
Wind flipped a little while ago and it started raining as the temp dropped to 31* and it's still dropping and raining. 31/NNW/RN It's ugly.

This is it though. Disaster averted.
Far from it. I have at least .3" of ice coating everything. Trees are flopping over, branches are falling, power/phone lines are sagging and the temp is dropping. There is nothing good about what's going on here.
-
It's back below freezing (31) and dropping with moderate rain falling and the wind is picking up again. It's getting ugly.
-
31 and dropping with heavy rain. It's getting ugly in a hurry.

My well water is wonderfully clear and tasty

@weatherpruf I'm in the middle of a densely packed suburban neighborhood not 'out in the sticks'. We do have garbage pickup, got it a couple of years ago but there is no town water or sewer anywhere near, a bit along the main road through some of the towns but that's it.
-
It's ugly out there, easily .25" of ice and it's still raining. I'm disappointed in the neighbors that said they'd help clear the driveway then did theirs but ignored ours.

ugh, I hope you stay safe! look on the positive side, at least you wont be shoveling!
oh, and gravity sucks
do you have a generator?
Yup. We got gas for it yesterday and we can run a few things with it but not the heat or well pump because we never got anyone to set up the wiring out of the breaker box. Know an available electrician?

~4" before the sleet, now down to 2" after 2 hours of heavy rain. Temp is 30*, transformers are popping and trees are snapping. Sounds like the wind is coming up so the fun has just begun Here we go again...

Trees are starting to snap now, it sounds like a battle zone out there. I'm not looking forward to tonight and tomorrow. The thought of no heat and running water (again) sucks.

Looks like I had ~4" before the flip to sleet. That brought it down to 3 and the heavy freezing rain I'm getting now has it down to 2, maybe a bit less. We've got transformers popping outside now. My power is still on but the next block over is dark. It's 30* and the ice is building quickly now
-
I just heard 2 transformers pop a few seconds apart. The power went out for a few seconds but then came back on. The next block over is dark.
I fell asleep but have been looking out every few hours, I got about 4" before it flipped to sleet and now it has been raining since about 3am. It's still 30* and the ice is building quickly

SN-/30/ESE v ENE

Even though it's been snowing for a few hours now it's barely accumulating. The wind has changed to the ESE with more of a southerly component than I'd like to see.

32/ENE light/snow grains and pellets

Snow pellets and grains now,no more sleet, temp is back down to 32.

Well, after spending $2k that we didn't have to take down 3 weak, leaning 80 footers yesterday before the storm we lost 2 60 footers today. The ones we had taken down yesterday were either leaning towards ours or the neighbors houses and they were sketchy so they needed to go, the ones today fell harmlessly into the yard. Unfortunately they badly damaged trees that were otherwise healthy and fine. Man, I'm gonna have firewood for years. I need a big boy chainsaw and a Granberg mill so I can slab some of this stuff up and make some nice furniture. I've got maple, ash, elm, hickory and chokecherry down now.
Temp is down to 22 and the wind is light out of the N.
