  1. I'd call it 85-90% snow cover here. Actually it's solid ice cover ;) Sunny, exposed south faces are burned out but otherwise it's complete. I did a lap around CT today and some places have real winter going on with real snowpack and snowbanks, you don't even need to go up into the hills.

I'd give this winter a D at best and that's only because it did get cold. If we don't get a storm with snow rather than ice I'll probably drop that to a D-.

  2. Being on the west slope of the Sierra it always seems to have different (wetter) weather than at the lake, I guess that's why I thought it was further down. I looked at what some of the people that live there are talking about on another forum I frequent and it's a mess trying to get into the basin. Most people are turning around and heading home rather than fight their way up to end up sleeping in their cars somewhere. I80 is not open over the top and US 50 is backed up for 20+ miles. Gonna be a lot of bummed out skiers missing a great weekend.

  3. There are quite a few along the Croton River corridor. I drive up and down between Croton Falls and Brewster at least 5 days a week and see one or two most days, I bet if I stopped and paid attention I'd see more. There is also at least one peacock in the area. I have 2 hawks nests in the yard, we saw a big one the other day sitting on a branch waiting for breakfast to make itself evident.

It looks like the drizzle has already moved through this morning, maybe we get a nice(ish) dry day today :guitar:

The shine of a large undisturbed snow filled field with a coating of ice on top is still impressive to me.

    Well yeah but...

It was ridiculous trying to shuffle around in Verplanck/Peekskill this morning. Just 1" of completely smooth ice. Almost comical with a few of us flailing about while chasing eagles and trying to land on our keisters rather than our $$$ lenses. At least at home I have a little soft snow under the crust, so you can dig your heels in for traction.

Sketchy right? You need to get YakTrax or similar. I'm looking forward to some warmth tomorrow.

  5. This time it's ok if it goes away, it's just a useless ice pack that's sketchy to move around on. The way the ice creeps into the roads as it melts during the day and refreezes at night is kind of scary too. It is kinda nice to look at this morning with flurries drifting down but I'd rather it be gone.

  6. Every time the wind blows it's an ice cascade as everything falls off the trees. It sounds like breaking glass and hurts when it knocks you on the head. It was bright and sunny up until a few minutes ago, now the clouds are moving in. I'd sure like to see a wall to wall sunny day to melt off some of this carp.

  7. What a mess! The ice isn't as thick this time as last month but I think there was a lot more sleet this time so the pack is super dense and the crust is nearly thick and strong enough to stand on without going through. It's slicker than last time too, my dogs can't even move on it so they pooped and peed right outside the door  It looks kind of nice though, everything is all glittery and shiny

  8. Thanks NZ and Rob. Everyone keeps saying they're impressed with how quickly I'm moving forward but, strangely, I feel like it's been a long slow process. I'm not very patient when it comes to things like recovering and I'm so used to just doing things that the restrictions feel very confining. The diet change has also been frustrating. If I sound less than grateful for the good things I'm not, I just don't express that as well.

  9. I dunno, now that I'm cleared to get out and do outdoor things again I really want to go for a bike ride so snow isn't what I'm hoping for. I went for a short hike in the woods yesterday and now my brain is screamin' for the type of therapy that only a mt bike ride in the woods can provide. C'mon spring :)

Nice. I wish I had the motivation to practice more.  Truthfully though, since I became president of my small, non-profit, member owned course, my golf desire has been slowly squeezed out my soul :(

Is this course open for public play? I love playing small, out of the way courses and I'm up that way 2 or 3 times a season.

Just tuned in to watch Pebble Beach. Graupel storms moved through earlier. Greens covered and the sunny 15 minutes later. They just called them off the course again.

I never understood why they hold that tournament at this time of year. It can be rotten in the middle of the summer right on the water there but in February?

What's up guys. I've been playing since I was 7 so, 45 years. I still hit a mean drive, unfortunately it doesn't go where I think it's going to go often enough. Every now and then like about 5 years ago on sun baked hardpan I put one out at 335 and it rolled to within 6 feet of the pin. One putt and it's the only eagle I've ever had. Well, the only one that counted. I had one on frozen ground back in high school and the ball just kept rolling like it was on a highway and rolled onto the green ~ 500 yards out. It was February so there was no hole or pin so we just chose a spot and when I putted the ball rolled over it. We also used to keep a ball in an inside pocket so for every shot, we'd pull it out and swap with the cold ball so we weren't always hitting frozen balls ;) which was nicer on our hands.
