  1. 1" is generous for what I got this morning. It was well under that on what was bare ground yesterday and 1.1 on the cars. At least it was fluffy and I was able to use the leaf blower to clean the driveway. I always enjoy doing that especially when a neighbor sees me and does a double take :)

I'm guessing you're not bothering to measure a lot of the tiny events.

I have 27.1 on the season, but 12.3 inches in 12 separate events.  I have the remaining 14.8 from two events, November 15 and January 19.

I did add those in. I've gotten skunked on everything but November. A couple of dustings, like yesterday, in December, next to nothing in January and a couple of inches that mixed with sleet super early on in the February storms.

Wow, I have 13" in the Bronx. I guess you missed the meat of the November storm. That's a really low total for 700' elevation near the Putnam border...you probably average like 45" around there...

I had ~7" in November but only 1" total for December (and that's optimistic, it was probably more like .7) then the other storms all turned to rain/freezing rain or sleet so the totals were minimal at 2" or less. With the great winters we've had the last 20 years or so my average has gone up to about 50, used to be mid 40's.

I'm too close to the city to be worried about back door snows, March ain't a big performer out here. But cold rains and easterly winds, yeah, that would suck.

Nah it's gonna be 42* and dreary, no snow. With already thoroughly saturated ground I don't expect it to be nice in the woods until the leaves pop and the trees suck the ground dry. It might be bearable if the golf courses manage to dry out but I'm not holding my breath.

Now that we are entering March, anything that falls next week won't be around long with that stronger March sun. Ready for Spring.

Except in my completely shaded driveway that has been a sheet/block of ice for weeks now.

Any kind of big spring warmup is going to get delayed if the MJO weakens before getting to the warmer 5-6 phases for March. This would mean a colder start to March would transition to closer to normal. But nothing too extreme in the warmth department for this time of year. Back doors could become an issue if the models are correct about all the high pressure building in SE Canada longer range.

    I hope this is wrong.

  7. I'm really over this winter. My driveway is still a block of ice and it's a hassle to get the cars in without them sliding into some weird position. There's a reasonable walking path and the lower 25 feet is relatively clear but narrow. It's been cold without the prize and I haven't been able to get out and do the things I like to do and the ice has been annoying. I want a few inches of snow out of this midweek storm but don't want it as much as I want warm and dry.

Julian, did you ever cut up that birch that fell in your yard a while back?

  8. Did anybody else see that the communications tower at the top of Sugarloaf (ME) blew over this afternoon while it was blowing ~130mph? There are some great pictures floating around on Facebook. Crazy conditions on the high peaks around New England tonight. I saw Mt Mansfield avg at 108 with gusts to 132 at 7pm and Mt Washington at 171mph!

There was surprisingly little damage here from the wind today. Some branches and a tree here or there but a lot less than I expected. I'd like to think that all the weak ones were culled over the last year or so but I know that's not true.

  9. I both enjoy and dread really windy days around here anymore. I love the sound of the wind screaming through the trees but really dislike losing power to downed trees and branches. I have a bunch of stuff to do early tomorrow with the whole family in the car, gonna try to stick to bigger roads without as many trees hanging over the roads.
