  1. I've had a few quick shots of drizzle and mist. It seems that the atmosphere is now saturated and primed. Won't take much to set it off methinks.
  2. Hoping this incoming deluge moves through by early Saturday morning, my wife has a booth at the fair at the Dutchess Fairgrounds and it's rain or shine so I have to set up no matter what. The only upside is the brewery and distillery section inside one of the pavilions.
  3. I was in Oceanside and not right on the water. I got 14" of rain here in Mahopac from Irene. I was 19 and had already earned my weather weenie badge hence the memory of the eye and how cool that was. I guess it was more significant east of western Nassau because I don't remember it being more than a windy, rainy day.
  4. My recollection of Gloria is it wasn't all that bad. Nothingburger comes to mind. I do remember walking outside and being in the eye with bright sunshine and a rotating wall of white and grey framing a deep blue circle in the sky. That was pretty cool.
  5. No bust here. In fact, it just stopped drizzling and misting over the last half hour. I'm well over 3" since Friday morning and have plenty of branches down from the wind. Most of what (was) left of the garden is probably done for the year now and the fall crops I planted are mushy. The garlic and onions I planted last week for spring harvest are garbage and need to be planted again
  6. 3 day total has now passed 3" with 1.6 so far today.
  7. I'm at 3" since Friday morning. Yuck.
  8. I don't know what to think now, it's been raining steadily all morning but the differences in recorded amounts around the 'hood are huge. The range is from ~.95 4 miles SW to ~.25 around my hill and back up to ~.6 a few miles N/NE. As I go through the Wunderground stations around the area they're all lower than the NY Mesonet numbers. It's usually much closer which makes me wonder what's up. Either way, it's raw, wet and windy #bringbackthedrought
  9. Still (just) under 1.5,hoping the forecast for more is wrong.
  10. It's windy but nothing special, .4-.45 and 55°. It's raw out there, like an October storm should be.
  11. As mentioned above, this has me a little worried.
  12. 2 on Saturday and then another 2 or so on Sunday. Yay. The water just stopped streaming out of the ground on Tuesday after last weekends inundation. This is gonna make a mess especially since the trees are still fully leafed out and the ground is already super soft.
  13. Ugh... On the upside, today is spectacular! Get out and do something
  14. 1.6 a mile west and 1.4 a half mile N. I went to get dinner during a particularly heavy period and the amount of water on the road made it pretty sketchy. The storm drains down on Rt 6 were spewing water straight up, that doesn't happen often so we must be completely saturated.
  15. Yeah wouldn't that be nice. I'm a bit over 1" today, this mist has been annoyingly persistent and adds up nicely. It would probably be half inch an hour stuff if it was 20* or so.
  16. Over a half inch of rain so far today (that we really don't need or want). It's cold and soggy.
  17. This is one of the nicest mornings we've had in a long time. I'm kind of disappointed I didn't go out and wander 'round in the woods for a few hours.
  18. Last of the clouds have moved east, now it's time to dry out. It can't happen quickly enough...
  19. Just had another heavy shower drop a quick .2
  20. The thing is it wasn't a bust. I've always felt that forecasts are for potential over an area not for specific spots. I got skunked a bunch of times recently with a few tenths while others just a few miles away on either side got drenched and I didn't call "bust!" I mean, you're talking about distances of 50 miles or less, sometimes 5 miles will do it, it just depends on where the train sets up and how wide it is. Ehh, whatever. Let's see some dryness for a few days and we'll all be happy (except for Forky who'll be bummed because it's only gonna be 75°).
  21. Bust bust bust, ahh bullshit. That was intense. The cross street at the end of my block looks like the local creeks after a hurricane, filled with debris and large branches that washed down the hill. It's not just about your backyards.
  22. That was some of the most intense rain I've had in a while. Local stations range from 1.3>1.85 and it didn't rain for very long at all. Whoosh...
