  1. Between the .01 last night and the following 7 hours of fog the things that are still growing got very happy. The lawn is lush, soft and green, the tomatoes and berries are flowering and putting on new fruit and the bees came back Unfortunately so did the mosquitoes 75° with a thin overcast. I'll take it!
  2. Yeah I got enough drizzle to wet the ground but there was nothing more than 30 or 40 feet further down the hill or 3 blocks south. The WU station at the town highway dept garage a mile away didn't record .01 so does it count as 0?
  3. Here too. About a month late if you ask me but, better late than never. It's too bad that 90% of people will be oblivious.
  4. Leaves are mostly down so it's time for the final mow and mulch, lawnmower batteries are charging now. I haven't had a hard frost so the tomatoes and strawberries are still producing but I let the rest dry up so it's time to trim that back. While I'd like to see some evidence of winter on the horizon I'll take the minimal heating requirements and call it good. BTW if you need oil I got it for 2.70/gal this morning.
  5. Frost again this morning at the low points on the property but not in the backyard where the garden is. I'm still pulling beautiful, sweet tomatoes and strawberries every day! Yum.
  6. It wasn't too bad, tomatoes and strawberries are still good to go, we'll see after tonight.
  7. I finally have frost! This is the latest first frost I can remember here in the 28 years I've been here. It's weird though, all of the local stations stayed at or above 34°.
  8. Beautiful day I could do without the wind though.
  9. We should start a petition to move the holidays further into the season so there's a better shot at it being more wintry.
  10. I'm hoping too, I'm still getting fresh strawberries and tomatoes from my garden
  11. Still in the mid to high 40s below me but I'm at 65° already.
  12. I'm still pulling ripe strawberries and tomatoes from the garden so that's nice.
  13. I've stayed at or above 35 so far, a few stations down below have dropped below 30 a couple of times. I was up in Lake Placid and Saranac yesterday,it was nice to see a foot and a half up on Marcy and Whiteface with great foliage down lower. There were a few times I came around a corner and was totally wowed
  14. As I move around for work I've been thinking that the foliage is pretty good east of I81 other than where the moths did that damage. It is kind of surprising how many plants are still late summer green.
  15. Went to turn the heat on yesterday and the furnace won't kick on
  16. Heat? It got down to 61 in the house, I can live with that. I think tonight I might get a fire going for a few hours after ~3 am. Temps around the hill this morning were interesting, I had 47°, 3/8 of a mile and 500 feet below was 42° and another 1/4 mile and 600 feet above that was 49°.
  17. And it'll all fall on you at 33° with a southerly wind. Sorry...
  18. Funny, I was thinking earlier that I don't remember ever having such an extended period of easterly winds.
  19. First rain of the day so far. I have a steady, soaking drizzle falling.
  20. Funny how just a bit of rain and it goes from dusty to soggy. I like how slowly this happened, the soil opened up and went from hardpan to soft and absorbent and now everything in the garden looks happy again. I was thinking that I miss Julian around here, he hasn't been around since what, the end of the winter? What happened to that guy? I hope he's ok.
  21. Finally a nice steady rain, totals jumped from ~.05 to .15 pretty quickly.
  22. 5.5 hours of dense fog with drizzle and occasional light rain has the surface thoroughly soaked now. Prepped and ready for more For real though, if we get decent rain the next few days it won't just run off the hardpan.
  23. Drizzle overnight and dense fog since about 5am. Surfaces are finally soaked and the plants are loving it.
