  1. It bottomed at 30 but the spring sun is warming up the front of the house quickly now. You know when things warm quickly and pop and crackle? Yeah that's what it's doing.
  2. Not again... Wasn't two wet years in a row enough? The caveat being that much of the warmth was due to high minimums not high maximums.
  3. I remember it happening with some frequency when I was a kid growing up in Oceanside. I've seen some outrageous hail in the Rockies and in Flagstaff AZ.
  4. The first line was thunder, lightning and heavy rain for less than ten minutes, the second was 3 minutes of heavy rain with pea sized hail for a minute. There hasn't been any wind which is nice and only .4" of rain. I'll take it, just enough to keep things moist but not enough to make it muddy.
  5. OMG the birds wrecked my berry crop last year and those damned furry critters ruined half the tomatoes. I think I need to replace one of the blueberry bushes, it doesn't seem to be coming back, just laid in 36 seedling pots in the house but I think I'm going to get another tray. Tomatoes this year will be in an upside down hanging thing, no bugs and the furry critters seem to ignore those. I need to make some wooden boxes for potatoes, I want to do a couple of different types this year. Not sure what to do about corn because that's another one the chipmunks seemed to like.
  6. I deal with outside and do all gardening and overall facilities upkeep and maintenance, my wife feeds us. I like to eat so...
  7. Heheh my problem is with much smaller critters but our 2 dogs may have solved that, they caught a couple of moles over the last few months so maybe this year I don't have half eaten heads of lettuce problems.
  8. I think this may end up being the year our property ends up looking more parklike than ever before but I'm going to try to reduce the amount of grass to mow. It seems like 5 days a week we're doing hours of yardwork. We have some good sized projects ahead. If it comes together right we'll have a food producing setup like nobody else in the 'hood.
  9. Yup third below 30 here too, not what I expected out of April this year that's for sure.
  10. Tired is better than the alternative Glad you're recovering and feeling better!
  11. An inch here, an inch there but not 17 at a time, at least not more than once every 20 or so years. In my mind that makes it pretty rare. Like us getting an Easter 1982 snowstorm that shuts Long Island down or the 17" in a few hours April Fools 1997 storm. Yes it happens but very rarely. A 32" week like this one, in the spring is anomalous.
  12. No they don't, that's just to their west in the mountains, Boulder isn't in the mountains. This is such a fluke that's happening right now. Cold air can happen pretty much any time as air sinks down off the 12k+ mountains but snow rarely happens on the Front Range from here on out.
  13. The whole Taconics region of Dutchess and Columbia Counties is pretty cool. The depressed nature is somewhat offputting but the towns are cozy and useful. The mountains and forests are awesome though and for all the years I've been exploring them I'm not even halfway through the spots I want to check out. 37* and dreary. Ick.
  14. I had a ground covering period of sleet that finished with flurries and melted off in minutes. I'm hoping for more tomorrow night.
  15. NH is at the top of the list for landing spots when we can get out of NY. Big problem now could be that the real estate market takes a dump when this is over and our house isn't worth what it was making that move too difficult.
  16. Yeah I sure didn't expect to see snow in my p&c at this point after how warm it has been. What year was it that April into May we had 5 weeks of perfect weather without a drop of rain? I want that one back. Instead I get to walk around the property in the mud picking up all the branches that came down yesterday and there's lots of them. I'm glad I didn't put the garden together last month when I wanted to.
  17. Holy shiznits Batkids this could be a real mess.
  18. Jockey Hill is kickass, that network had nearly faded away and then over the last few years got totally rebuilt and expanded. Now it's a destination spot that can be connected to a few others so it's blowing up (in a good way). When I want quiet I go to Patterson, only the lower section of the county land gets used so there's another 15 miles of trail that are empty so I park up top and ride the road a little so I don't have to park near other people.
