  1. Not ripping but it is snowing. 36° so it won't stick.
  2. Closing in on 2" now. 41° with a stiff NNW wind.
  3. Closing on 1.5" now with the wind picking up big time over the last hour or so. All of the storm drains are completely clogged and the water is cascading down the center of the streets in sheets. Driving is interesting at best. Hopefully the next round of precip is light or the back side freeze could be a mess.
  4. You old guys gotta be careful with that stumbling
  5. Driving around today I was really surprised at how high the water level is in some of the reservoirs. Usually by now they've drained them down 10 feet or more. Up to 1.4" on the day so far. This is the good solid soaking we've needed for a while. I hate it but I'll take it.
  6. 46* and .65 so far with steady rain. Miserable day but we sure do need it. @Juliancolton, I don't think you can really call it until about 4am when we see where the snow sets up. I know you'll need to get well south of me if you want leaves on the trees, even right on the river in Peekskill is pretty much done already. I don't know about the high country in NNJ but from some mtb pics over the weekend it looked like it was pretty good. edit: Actually, after reading Walts thoughts NNJ and SW CT are probably your best bet for snowliage. @Brian5671 what's the leaf/color situation down by you now?
  7. November is looking like it's going to start cold then warm then ...?
  8. I saw that and thought the same thing. Usually I'm all in for anomalous early snows but I really need to get something done tomorrow morning and don't want to put it off due to dumbasses doing dumbass things on the roads. It can't wait until the afternoon because I have a video conference I have to attend between 2-3 and the place is closed over the weekend.
  9. There's a stretch of the Croton River between the reservoir in Brewster and the one in Mahopac that the eagles like to congregate around. It almost never freezes during the winter so they have good fishing and hang out in the trees. Over the last 5 years I've gotten so comfortable with them being here that the novelty has almost worn off. Lets keep the snow Friday morning north of 84, I have something I need to get done and don't want to deal with the stupidz.
  10. I have to learn not to get emotionally involved until storms are in progress. You'd think that after all these years of weenie weather watching I'd have learned but no...
  11. And another Halloween snowstorm incoming. Has there ever been three in the space of a decade? Crazy...
  12. You forgot to mention the mist and drizzle, this is just an extension of the last four dreary days so far. Hopefully it will be really dry with a breeze to dry things out, it's too soggy to even do anything outside in the yard
  13. And another thoroughly dreary morning. This is getting old If I wanted to live in Seattle...
  14. ooh ooh I saw some sun today It was only for a few minutes but it happened.
  15. Well that explains it. I've been under a dense overcast all day and this shows that the edge is literally a few miles north of me.Had I gone a few minutes that direction I would have seen sun today like everyone else.
  16. I hate those days (like today) where everyone is posting happy sunny pictures and I'm sitting here soggy and under a dense overcast all day. I went out and took a look this morning and the slugs have taken over my garden, they wrecked the lettuce I know we need the rain, big time, but this isn't rain just wet and it fks everything up and it sux...
  17. For 25 years I've been saying there should be a national water transport system. Move the excess from wet areas to the dry areas. All I ever hear is that I'm crazy. I'm ok with that.
  18. I usually have my AC covered by now to keep the leaves out but we've needed to run it for an hour or two to dry the house out.
  19. My main reason for wanting one goes back to being a map freak and wanting better details than a sat shot can give me. I also want to film some mountain biking but I don't know that I could afford the follow drones that are good for that kind of use. I have a feeling that I'd rarely post pictures that could be incriminating but stuff like that is easy to say before you have the opportunity. I can't decide if I like it this warm at night this late in October but it is kind of nice out other than being a little soggy.
  20. How do they know if you have one flying over some of the less well monitored areas around here? Do drones have a transponder? Another warm and soggy morning and the garden is loving it. I had tomatoes start to pop last week and they're moving along quickly and my potatoes and carrots are going crazy. Anyone need parsley or cilantro? The plants are nearly three feet tall.
  21. And you were right again, it was a very soggy overnight. It's lifting a bit now but still only about 1/4 mile visibility.
  22. Fog is thicker and everything is now soaked. A half hour ago when I posted the paved surfaces were dry but now it's so thick that it's misting and has wet those down too. It's warm with temp at 57.
