  1. @IrishRob17 lol at the agenda, that's what it looks like here too. So what's the deal for tonight/tomorrow morning? Ice, sleet, rain or a bit of each?
  2. I'm still near 100% coverage on areas that aren't in direct sun for the better part of the day, IOW anything that's not south facing is still fully covered with 4-8" of sloppy sugary snow. I think the wet stuff incoming tonight and tomorrow will break it up and the warm days this week will make it go away. Stuff that is melted off is serious mud which makes me think that anything not paved will be hands (feet) off for a while after melt off. Surprisingly the lakes that are still frozen appear to be well frozen, the ones that started to melt off recently are losing their ice quickly now.
  3. So we're looking at a little bit of snow tomorrow night huh? Of course I have to be out and drop my daughter off at 6am Sunday morning for a ski trip to VT with a group from her college. At least there won't be anyone else out there at that time. How much are we looking at? edit: blah just an inch...
  4. I'm surprised at some of the lakes melting off and not recovering their ice through this cold snap. A couple of the local stations got down below 5* this morning but most seem to have been around 8*. Surprisingly cold for March.
  5. Hey all. My daughter will be at Mt Snow Sunday>Tuesday with a group from her college. Looks like the weather is questionable at least on Sunday. Will it be wet or white there?
  6. I remember a few days at Kirkwood when sitting on the chair you were below the surface of the surrounding snow. Patrol strung ropes so you didn't accidentally ski into the pit and land on the moving chairs.
  7. Wait, what. Where are my reading glasses. Ah.
  8. I've been wanting to check out the new brewery in (near?) Poughkeepsie. I think I made it down to 8*. Very wintry look and feel again today.
  9. Yeah it was just virga here on the valley floors. I could see it falling out of the clouds and took a ride up one of the big hills and it was ever so light tiny flakes but only over the top few feet.
  10. It sure looks and feels like it wants to snow again now.
  11. I'm trying to decide if I should go out and clear it with the leaf blower while it's still cold and fluffy like I did that day last week.
  12. More than a dusting here, easily over 1/2" and it's still under 15*. Snow 6 out of 7 days and crazy low temps at this point in the season is pretty cool.
  13. It snowed overnight, a nice thick coating, looks like 1/2" or more. Surprise So that means it snowed 6 out of 7 days. Between that and single digits in the first week of march it's a heckuva way to run a crappy winter.
  14. The further south you get in Chile the more similar it is to going far north in North America in relation to summertime sun angles and ozone layer thickness and effectiveness.
  15. Good question. There are a few reasons that I can think of off the top of my head. First is that the ozone layer is thinner the further north you get so the sun is more powerful. Next is during the summer the sun angle that far north is very high at midday so it really cooks. Keep in mind that having 22 hours of sunlight means that it's hot for longer because it doesn't cool down completely. Hmm, yes it is quite humid when it gets like that because, at least in the areas I spent time, it's exceptionally lush so the evaporation rate is significant. I hadn't really thought about that aspect until you asked.
  16. It's so dry the meltwater is evaporating rather than puddling or running across driveways and streets.
  17. Growing up on the south shore, Oceanside, I don't remember many 95+ days at all. Where is the thermometer placed in Newark? Surrounded by asphalt, open to the SSW...? You want to know where 95 feels unbearable, try Alaska. Anything over ~80 feels oppressive and when it gets into the 90's your skin fries in minutes.
  18. Ehh, they can keep it It's weird though how 90 up here feels so hot compared to 95+ down there.
  19. Stations around me ranged from 8-14 for the low this morning, up here on the hill it was more like 15. I was just outside getting some stuff done and it's nice in the sun, looking forward to a nice crisp day.
  20. I lived and worked there for the 1986/87 season. The skiing on that mountain is absolutely fantastic when the snow is good! The main lift runs from 9400 to 11,6 and the peak is at 12,3 (20 minute walk) with the bottom of the beginner lift at 9200(?). You can find every type of snow, whatever you want, somewhere in there. There are some of the finest steep north facing, exceptionally wide spaced trees I've ever seen anywhere, a couple of raging steep shots to give you a good buzz, extended above treeline stretches, almost south facing ridgeline high speed groomer, due south facing steep and wide open with rocks and chutes, a couple of kickass volcanic chutes and... Yeah I miss it and need to go back again when the snow is right.
  21. There was a noticeable increase in accumulations as you went east from where I am in Mahopac (NY) through Danbury and then towards you. It was definitely elevation based too.
  22. Yeah but nobody lives there so it doesn't really count
  23. I went out around 11 and cleared the cars and moved some snow out of the way and in the shade the snow on the cars hadn't settled too much so I stuck a ruler in. It was at 11"! Surprised the heck out of me.
