  1. *Disclaimer: Records only go back to 2005 here: Last year was the only season in which I measured an inch or more of snow in November and went on to have a below average snowfall season, and that was only by a couple of inches.
  2. I love this microclimate/weather nerd stuff. I often see changes going from my 385’ up and over the 520’ hill to get to the main road. When the car windows instantly fog up as I go up the hill always gets ones attention.
  3. I’m hoping the colder temps will slow mine down but at least the leaves are done. We shall see.
  4. 27 was my low this morning, final fall yard clean up done, just need to put up my snow stakes
  5. I’m hoping we get something and then go on to pick up another 100” over the season to put even more doubt into the argument the early snow is always a bad sign for winter. That said, I do not want a repeat of last winter either.
  6. 28 here. I need to recalculate some numbers on my spreadsheet as I had the first hard freeze column using temps of 27 or lower. I thought it had to be below 28 but I see it is 28 or below so my hard freeze date will be a little bit earlier. More to follow next week for anyone who cares... <crickets>
  7. The .47” on the day gets my monthly total to 6.35”, putting it into second place.
  8. I assume your monthly total is low because you had those issues earlier with your rain gauge? This October here is the third wettest since I moved here in 2005, and could very well be the second wettest depending on what happens today and when the line gets here tonight, it'll be close. I was right around 6" when I left this morning and Oct 2010 had 6.30" with the wettest Oct here being 2005 when I recorded 17.06"
  9. Average Hard Freeze date here is 11/2...bet the over this year...
  10. Yes, thankfully we were not denied like in the past couple of years. It is unfortunate though that some trees did stress from he dry September. Looking back at my rainfall totals in 2015, the last fully epic foliage year IMBY, and it had a wet June, dry July, slightly below normal August and a wet September. Is that the key? Who the hell knows, there are some many variables that go into foliage color, timing, and duration.
  11. Yeah, I meant to post about this on Wednesday morning but it’s budget season which is always “entertaining” in my world, and rather busy this year. Anyway back to Wednesday morning, a picture perfect October morning it was in my neck of the woods. There was patchy ground fog with deep blue skies and sunshine above, this combined with the trees that did put on a show this year was indeed epic.
  12. Sharing the same brain here, I was trying to upload the GIF of when they flip the nuclear switch but I didn’t have any luck. I can never get those to load for some reason.
  13. 90% of the leaves in my yard are now down and 70% of those have blown out of my yard, lovely stuff. That aside, I am also surprised at how well the trees in general around my neck of the woods held onto their leaves.
  14. I don't recall a huge difference in elevation between you and I, I'm at 385'. Now in the winter I think there is certainly some in play with my location in comparison to someone I know who lives up in Walker Valley depending on the storm.
  15. Pressure for down to 988.5 here, 2.91”in the bucket
  16. In my yard I've lost about half the leaves, if not a bit more, I've been mulching them with the mower. The maples I have that went to seed this fall dropped their leaves first, I haven't paid attention to this in the past, is it typical for maples that seed in the fall to loose their leaves first? Anyone? Bueller?
  17. I must admit, some of the sugar maples in my neck of the woods have turned vibrant over the past few days, wonder how much will be left though after the next couple of days though...
  18. 2015 was a stunning foliage year around here, I found this comparison I did a couple of years ago, both photos were taken in 10/14 and then I took the bottom photo yesterday
  19. I fertilized twice. Once in April and again in June. Didn't start to die off until August. Pretty sure it's not over fertilized. I'm gonna rotatil it next Spring and start over Yeah, after I posted I looked at the photo again and saw spots in the distance that still had some green. It just wondered if it was a burn of some sort, fertilizer or chemical. That’s sucks, so frustrating for you.
  20. My experience with grubs had the damage patchy, that is totally wiped out, wow. Did you fertilize? Maybe an incorrect setting on the spreader? I’ve seen guys totally burn the lawn out by over fertilizing.
