  1. Yes, thankfully we were not denied like in the past couple of years. It is unfortunate though that some trees did stress from he dry September. Looking back at my rainfall totals in 2015, the last fully epic foliage year IMBY, and it had a wet June, dry July, slightly below normal August and a wet September. Is that the key? Who the hell knows, there are some many variables that go into foliage color, timing, and duration.
  2. Yeah, I meant to post about this on Wednesday morning but it’s budget season which is always “entertaining” in my world, and rather busy this year. Anyway back to Wednesday morning, a picture perfect October morning it was in my neck of the woods. There was patchy ground fog with deep blue skies and sunshine above, this combined with the trees that did put on a show this year was indeed epic.
  3. Sharing the same brain here, I was trying to upload the GIF of when they flip the nuclear switch but I didn’t have any luck. I can never get those to load for some reason.
  4. Doesn’t the bark tell the difference between the two?
  5. I was told there’d be pizza and beer...
  6. 90% of the leaves in my yard are now down and 70% of those have blown out of my yard, lovely stuff. That aside, I am also surprised at how well the trees in general around my neck of the woods held onto their leaves.
  7. I don't recall a huge difference in elevation between you and I, I'm at 385'. Now in the winter I think there is certainly some in play with my location in comparison to someone I know who lives up in Walker Valley depending on the storm.
  8. Pressure for down to 988.5 here, 2.91”in the bucket
  9. In my yard I've lost about half the leaves, if not a bit more, I've been mulching them with the mower. The maples I have that went to seed this fall dropped their leaves first, I haven't paid attention to this in the past, is it typical for maples that seed in the fall to loose their leaves first? Anyone? Bueller?
  10. I must admit, some of the sugar maples in my neck of the woods have turned vibrant over the past few days, wonder how much will be left though after the next couple of days though...
  11. I seem to recall that there was a time frame attached as well back in the day, not sure there is anymore. A quick search found this https://www.nws.noaa.gov/directives/sym/pd01005015e022011curr.pdf#page7
  12. I believe it’s 28 or lower for a hard freeze. I was going to bring this up last week in the NYC Freeze thread, the difference between a freeze and a hard freeze but I figured weenies heads would explode.
  13. 2015 was a stunning foliage year around here, I found this comparison I did a couple of years ago, both photos were taken in 10/14 and then I took the bottom photo yesterday
  14. I fertilized twice. Once in April and again in June. Didn't start to die off until August. Pretty sure it's not over fertilized. I'm gonna rotatil it next Spring and start over Yeah, after I posted I looked at the photo again and saw spots in the distance that still had some green. It just wondered if it was a burn of some sort, fertilizer or chemical. That’s sucks, so frustrating for you.
  15. My experience with grubs had the damage patchy, that is totally wiped out, wow. Did you fertilize? Maybe an incorrect setting on the spreader? I’ve seen guys totally burn the lawn out by over fertilizing.
  16. An absolutely stunning day up here, bright blue cloudless skies at the moment
  17. Just came up the Thruway from Westchester, all of the dead ash trees aren’t helping the views any. The landscape is forever changed.
  18. “Only that day dawns to which we are awake.” Yeah, I’d say that you had a big awakening last year, kudos to you. Fall foliage is so damn tricky. I’m guessing now if the very dry September, 1.27” here got some trees to shut down and dropped leaves because that clearly happened in my yard. Now we’re getting some rain again and the leaves aren’t dropping as much. I’m hoping what’s left will change into some decent color here. We shall see.
  19. Welcome back. The question I have is if the season can be salvaged or its another shitty foliage year for us.
