  1. Actually Buffalo had 2 20"+ LES events in January 2019. 20" and 21" at KBUF This one https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=2018-2019&event=E And this https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=2018-2019&event=G
  2. Thank you. 3" from 6-9 AM. Going to clear at noon. 21.9" total. What if I shovel like 10 feet around the measuring spot? I can do that going forward.
  3. How do you keep a heavy piece of wood from just falling down in the snow depth and even getting more skewed measurements?
  4. You've had lake snow events with quite a bit more than that since 2014. I think at least 4-5.
  5. You're right wolf, I take those roads on my way to lake placid. It's much safer chasing here vs there.
  6. That's awesome! I plan to eventually hike all of those mountains after I finish the Adirondack 46. So many great winter activities up there.
  7. Welcome back! I remember you always posting when you came up around thanksgiving and christmas. Did you recently move to NH? I was getting a little worried with how the models were trending but as Bumble pointed out these early season events with full length of the lake and above average lake temps usually overperform. The RGEM has been my favorite model for lake effect for a long time, its by far the most accurate.
  8. This is my favorite type of band, gets nearly everyone involved. The strongest part is over KBUF right now, a second strong band near my place.
  9. KBUF reporting heavy snow https://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KBUF.html
  10. ...A BAND OF HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT WESTERN WYOMING... NORTHWESTERN CATTARAUGUS...ERIE...NORTHERN CHAUTAUQUA AND GENESEE COUNTIES... A band of heavy lake effect snow producing snow fall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour will remain nearly stationary through mid morning across the southern half of the Buffalo Metro area along and south of a line from downtown to the airport. Heavy lake effect snow also extends eastward into Genesee County, and southwest down the Lake Erie shore to Dunkirk.
  11. Additional snow to come today. We will likely make a run at over 3'
  12. Still heavy snow here. Band has intensified and is now covering almost all of Erie county. Closing in on 2' so far.
  13. That Ontario band is cranking. Erie is helping feed that thing too. 3-4” rates easy
  14. Off Lake Erie... A band of heavy snow is focused from near Dunkirk across much of southern and central Erie County to near Batavia early this morning. The band will remain in this area through about daybreak, then drift north and focus right over the heart of the Buffalo Metro area into northwest Genesee County from mid morning to mid afternoon. The northern edge of the band will get as far north as North Buffalo and the southern portions of Amherst and Clarence for at least a few hours during this time. Snowfall rates will maintain at 2-3 inches per hour in the most intense portion of this band through early afternoon. Boundary layer flow will veer more to the WSW during the mid to late afternoon, pushing the lake effect snow back south across the southtowns, ending up back along the Lake Erie shore to southern Erie County by this evening. Inversion heights begin to lower by late afternoon and early evening, and shear increases somewhat. Even so, a favorable environment below the inversion will still maintain accumulating lake effect snow tonight. With this in mind, converted the Winter Storm Warning to a Lake Effect Snow Warning for southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus counties and extended it through most of tonight. Lake effect snow will weaken later tonight and end quickly Sunday morning as inversion heights lower dramatically as warm advection begins aloft. Additional accumulations of 12-18 inches are expected today through tonight from far northern Chautauqua/far northwest Cattaraugus counties into southern and central Erie County, far western Wyoming, and western Genesee counties. This includes much of the City of Buffalo, immediate southern and eastern suburbs. A few localized locations may see additional amounts nearing 2 feet.
  15. A BAND OF HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT NORTHERN WYOMING... NORTHWESTERN CATTARAUGUS...CENTRAL ERIE...NORTHEASTERN CHAUTAUQUA AND GENESEE COUNTIES... A band of heavy lake effect snow is drifting slowly northward and into the central and southern portions of the Buffalo Metro area early this morning. Travel conditions will deteriorate rapidly from downtown to near the airport. Heavy lake effect snow also extends into much of Genesee County and down the Lake Erie shore to near Dunkirk.
