Yeah, no doubt Chicago will rebound but it will be a tall order for them to get 18+ inches more snow than Detroit from now through the rest of the season.
All that's needed is one big dog to take the right (or, depending on your location, wrong) track.
Unlikely, sure. But not impossible.

FWIW, the warmest December on record was back in 1933 (dust bowl era) with an average temp of 54*F.
After yesterday (and the day before, which both had below normal daily averages), DFW's average temperature sits at 59.8*F.
On top of that, DFW has ever recorded a December with average highs above 65*F, and right now it sits at 71*F.
This isn't just a torch, it's an inferno.12/19 did break the 50*F+ highs streak though, with only a high of 48*F. -

Right on. I visit austin often for work and that area is blowing up. I was thinking of maybe moving there.
Austin is real good if you're into outdoors stuff. It's pretty expensive there compared to other big Texas cities though.
I have family in Houston and San Antonio (some of them also moved from Michigan) They're all doing well.
And that's the thing. No matter what type of person you are, what your convictions are and what your ambitions are, there's a place somewhere in the state for anyone to fit in and do well.

I feel like im the only silly soul left in this state lol. What brought you down to texas? Lack of big dogs lol? Or work? A friend of mine just moved to corpus Christi and loves it.
I work remotely now, so I felt Texas was the best place to move to at this point in my life.
No income tax and the warm falls / springs are definite pluses, as well as the weather being much Sunnier. It also has that same vibe California had 30-50 years ago with everyone tripping over themselves to come here, everything feeling new and the plethora of job opportunities.
EDIT: The higher risk of severe t'storms to track is nice too, although this last season locally was quite underwhelmingly.

You cared enough to respond to him. I understand it's been a frustrating start to winter out in chicagoland, but don't take it out on other people, even though spartman may deserve it sometimes. You've been condescending for years on here and it needs to stop. Posts like these is what prevents newer members or guest viewers from posting or joining and growing the community on here. Que the lol response to this post, further making my point. Anyone can be an arrogant prick online, and its cowardly. Perhaps try to step down off your pedestal and be decent to people.
Heeeyyy Stevo6899!
I do enjoy lurking & reading your posts to get your observations, as a former fellow east sider. Not much has changed either it seems...

There's a chance DFW could go the entire month of December without a sub-50*F high, which would really be crazy (not sure that's ever happened before).
Sunday, with a current forecast high in the upper 40s, might be our best shot.
In fact, our "coldest" high to-date has only been 59*F.

I'd be surprised if there was another December on record with 2 back-to-back historic severe weather outbreaks.

Impressive comma head too.

Parts of MN upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning with tonight's system.

I guess we all have that one thing we're really passionate about...

If there's any solace, it seems the line did break up just enough and just in time to spare both KC and Des Moines from the intense conditions.

Would these "underratings" relate to insurance companies and/or aid groups that dole out more aid for 5s than 4s & dont want to give out more money? Im being serious, not a smart ass.....just want to make sure this comment isnt read the wrong way.
That certainly makes for a good conspiracy theory...

That's a nasty-looking bow echo passing NW of Des Moines.

Do not love the look of that super cell headed in the general direction of KC
Fortunately, it may ease on by just to the south.

...and hail was supposed to be a minimal threat today (5%)!
When I saw those mid-level lapse rates this morning, I kind of suspected there would be some intense hailers today.

That cell moving into Ottawa, KS is looking increasingly omnous.

The lightning is pretty impressive too, especially for so far north in December. Almost 400 strikes per minute.

Per SPC 3:13pm CT report, there's a TOG in Humphrey, NE.

Looks like there's a quite a bit of CIHN across IA.
While the line should easily break the cap, the CIHN may be the saving grace that prevents more tornadic supercells from developing ahead of the line.

With how wild this year has been weather-wise (especially in the center of the country), I wouldn't rule out anything, lol...
