  1. Wow, talk about a long track, this Bama tornado is about to hit Texas.
  2. 1059 PM CDT Wed Mar 24 2021 ...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1115 PM CDT FOR EASTERN KIMBLE AND SOUTHWESTERN MASON COUNTIES... At 1057 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado and damaging winds was located 8 miles northeast of Segovia, or 14 miles east of Junction, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...Tornado and two inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. Locations impacted include... Segovia and Yates Crossing. This includes Interstate 10 between Mile Markers 464 and 473.
  3. Ch.5 thinks they may be picking up a debris ball over Highland Village. Anyone seeing that on their radar apps? (Denton County tornado)
  4. I understand your point, but OTOH, 16 of 20 reports being in the center oval seems pretty darn impressive for more than just archery. I've lived long enough to still be continually amazed at how good weather forecasting has become. So my acceptable margin of error may be bigger than that of others.
  5. LOL, Spann and ABC switching back to Wheel of Fortune since the tor warns dropped out. You can almost see the Bust Choir's ears perk up. (I'm gonna use the intermission to pop some popcorn.)
  6. Man, these things are training. Big ol' solid thin line of orange from Lewisville to south of Eastland that looks like it is all running on a track. I measured it out, 120 miles long.
  7. Hmmm, based on the Wundermap radar (stitched together?) it should hit me soon. Not hearing anything at the moment. So how does Wundermap have radar and the new and 'improved'(?) NWS radar product doesn't? Does Wundermap just do a better job of stitching together and projecting from radars surrounding the down DFW site? They both use the same radar sites, correct? And just as I type this, big hail hits the roof. Edit: Sounds bigger than it looks. Maybe pea to marble so far. Only lasted a minute then just a good downpour.
  8. Thunderstorms on the north side of DFW. Welcome back, thunder! I see the NWS' DFW radar is down, once again. It works really great, except when it rains...Good thing they had that preplanned 2-week maintenance outage last month. "Heck of a job, Brownie!"
  9. Supposedly the initial botch by ERCOT, waiting too long to start rolling blackouts, damaged both generating plants and parts of the grid. Add in the supply issues and they have to be very careful with the grid now, load balancing is critical. Having it go down completely would be 100 times more disastrous than the current terrible fiasco. That said, we've slowly improved from less than 2 hours total power per day to about 40% on, 60% off. The outage gaps down from 11 hours to under 4 hours the last 3 times. Enough time on each return (1.5-3 hours) to rewarm the house and where the lowest temps inside during outages are getting progressively higher. They are making progress, hang in there. I know it's really awful for many.
  10. Yes, I heard sleet for about a minute and then freezing rain ever since, here on the north side of DFW. This sucks, I don't want power outages. Edit: And now that I've posted, we've thankfully started getting swirling flakes instead of the freezing rain that was falling fast at a 45 degree angle. Starting to get a nice dusting on top of the glaze.
  11. God blessed North Texas, with his own hands Brought down angels from the Promised Land Gave us a hole, where we could dance If you want to see heaven, brother, here's your chance I've been sent, to spread the message mmmmm Bust North Texas
  12. Currently the only part of Texas not predicted to freeze in the next week is Port Isabel and S. Padre Island. Even Brownsville is too far inland, Port Mansfield too far north.
  13. Um, no. I'm certain that Galveston Bay will not freeze over.
  14. This just in: Reynolds Wolf is the worst phony to ever blather on TWC. Thankfully I taught my remote to automatically mute as soon as it recognizes his voice.
  15. Looks like some bureaucratic idiot decided this would be a great day to eliminate the summary graphics on the front page of each NWS forecast office. Don't see any on Austin-SA, Houston, or DFW, despite potential severe weather today and more rounds this week. Those were quick, simple, easy, and very informative. Maybe similar is buried in one of their bazillion links, but I couldn't find any in a quick search. Just ridiculous. https://www.weather.gov/ewx/ And to be honest, lately several of the offices have been slow to update their forecasts. Things the local TV weather pages would be predicting that wouldn't show up on NWS local forecast pages until much later. Go to bed trusting the NWS forecast of no rain tomorrow while the TV mets were calling for it all day, only to wake up and NWS finally added it in. And always amusing to see things like the NWS page show current temp of 83 at 11am while the forecast continued to show high of 77 (and no front had passed that day.) NWS is turning into the Post Office.
  16. SPC upgraded today's Convective Outlook from marginal to slight in CenTex. Added a Tor Watch until 5pm.
  17. The new(?) NWS San Angelo radar format is...not good. Unless you live right on an interstate, it is almost impossible to find your exact location on a map. That's a pretty big safety downgrade. https://www.weather.gov/sjt/NationalRadar2 Perhaps I'm missing it, but I can't find an option to turn on a map layer with more detail, such as the topo most other NWS radars have. Just two levels of zoom, previously you could zoom into to a very detailed layer of roads and often even buildings. The new format does have less clutter for the storms, but... There's also an annoying autostart voice message on their homepage. Luckily if you click the radar link in the top row of text you can navigate to the old format radars. But a lot of non-weather geeks are going to go to that page only in a severe threat and could easily miss that. Speaking of NWS San Angelo, is the excellent former TWC met, Dr. Steve Lyons, still in charge there?
  18. Good: The Weather Channel is doing follow up coverage of the TN tornadoes. Bad: Can anyone watch for very long? That shameless drama queen Justin Whatever is horrible. LOL, a lady picking up bricks kinda turned and looked at him like she wanted to hit him with one as he stood there endlessly babbling cornball cliches while she's trying to clean up. Was like a Geico commercial.
  19. Starting 14:55 into the video, that's probably EF4 damage, right? Home after home blown down to their foundation.
  20. Um, multiple tornado warnings between Huntsville and Chattanooga.
  21. I see on Ms. Twitter that iMr.Cyclone made it through ok. Still has to survive the cannibalism, though. Edit: Removed the link, it seemed to be circular rumors. So maybe not ok. Or just ok. Which nowadays I hear is not ok.
  22. Now MASH Harbour. Cat 4 & 5's scare the heck out of me.
  23. The Weebles model has been the best performer today. Lots of wobbles but it doesn't fall down.
