  1. Spell check may be kinda important in this instance.
  2. Not sure the banter thread walls can handle a Cat 4.
  3. Dumb question amnesty: When they say "10-15' storm surge forecast" does that include the height of expected wave action? I always assumed wave heights were in addition to the surge numbers.
  4. In contrast, The Fighting Texas Aggies are fully prepared if Ida veers west.
  5. Some speculation that a massive debris buildup at the railroad and highway bridge 3 miles upstream of Waverly may have created that 'tidal wave' when it gave way. The long RR fill parallel to the creek acted like a dam, given the relatively narrow opening of the concrete RR bridge. This vid shows where it was overtopped and partially breached:
  6. Take a look at the topography on Google Maps. It's a small drainage area, a narrow valley about 1.5-2 miles wide that only extends 11 miles up creek from Waverly. If I read correctly, 20 of the 21 deaths were in town. Red roofs were public housing: Unfortunately much of the town, including public housing, is in the floodplain right up against the creek. This is the 4th major flood starting with 1984, but this was the worst. Apparently few with flood insurance. If the gov't is going to bail them out, then buy out property and force all rebuilding to be out of the 500-year floodplain. A big part of the small town also got destroyed in the infamous explosion during clean up from a train derailment in 1978. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waverly,_Tennessee,_tank_car_explosion

  8. What's the deal? Both the main El Paso and Midland pages have been failing to show on the map or their legend(clickable link listing of hazards next to the map) current flash flood warnings today. It's been happening all day that I've been checking. Current El Paso FFW is from 3:52pm to 7:00pm, in effect for more than an hour. Not showing in either Chrome or Firefox (yes, I refreshed, cleared cache, etc.) I think it shows at the national level, but most users don't go to that level. If you click on the regional office map to a specific location it is in the Hazardous listings, but many users just glance at the regional main page map. And showing up in the regional page's radar image, but since it's not listed in the clickable link box, some may guess it is expired. Doesn't seem to be the entire time I was typing this. Isn't a FFW one of their most serious warnings? Dropping the ball again. No explanation I could see on the regional office pages. https://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=TXZ418&warncounty=TXC141&firewxzone=TXZ055&local_place1=2 Miles N Sunland Park NM&product1=Flash+Flood+Warning&lat=31.8286&lon=-106.5731 https://www.weather.gov/epz/
  9. Already got some popcorn pop and die between Weatherford and Stephenville. Hope that cluster north of San Angelo keeps going all day, that area needs the rain. Never died and ramped up good this morning.

  11. Still dive bombing from Kansas, has widened out and is now stretched from past Lawton to Henryetta, OK. Keeps blowing through 30% chance of rain areas and widening.
  12. Big north-south line suddenly filling in from Mineral Wells to Henrietta (and on up to Lawton.) May wake y'all up in a few hours.
  13. Impressive looking Red River line looking north from DFW at sunset.
  14. I see that there was tornado warning east of Eagle Pass.
  15. Ch. 11 is doing a good job tracking the hail cores with their online live coverage: https://dfw.cbslocal.com/ I wonder if he is new to the area, he keeps reading these often random/obscure local names off the map. Just read 3 that I've never heard of and I wanted to tell him, "Dude, everybody just calls all of that Colleyville." I first tried channel 5, and after 5 minutes of nonstop ads gave up.
  16. Fox 4 reporter on the scene reported the death last night around 11pm. Glad to hear that he was incorrect.
  17. Truck driver in the rig that flipped and knocked out the I-35e median has died.
  18. Same for the forming line southwest of Waco to at least Kingsland. That cell northwest of Abilene was almost pure purple for awhile as it crossed from Nolan to Taylor County.
  19. Channel 11 with a live shot from their chaser who came up on an 18-wheeler than had been blown over on I-35 south of Waxahachie. Knocked the concrete median into at least 2 lanes of the opposite direction. People trying to locate/rescue the driver.
