  1. I remember a couple mild overall Nov/Dec with not much snow until Christmas break back when I was at MTU. Looking at the chart you posted they must have gotten the snow just before Christmas as it showed white on the pines. Coming back after New Years was exciting as there was finally snow on the ground for cross country skiing. Back then Mt Ripley didn't have snow makers so it wasn't able to open until January!
  2. Isn't is crazy how we can remember storms like this. 1978 Blizzard is the same for me. I was 7 years old and still remember it. Back then I had to wait for TV news for any updates. Makes me wonder how today's models would of handled it. Wonder if todays models would of had 50+" runs with that storm
  3. I have seen this happen many times. The biggest reversal in DTW history occurred on Christmas day itself. Record High @ DTW is 64 on 1982. Record Low @ DTW is -10 on 1983. I remember it well as I happened to be visiting family in MN in 1982 and got blasted by a major winter storm that week!! We were digging tunnels through the snow drifts Home the very next Christmas with the booger freezing cold with record cold 4 days in a row!!
  4. Very classic strong El Niño like pattern continues the next couple weeks. Pretty much things are going as most expected. Next thing to watch is SSW events. This where I believe things become interesting.
  5. My post had nothing to do with warmth or cold.
  6. How about we hold off starting storm threads until it is within 3 days (i.e. worthless NAM range)???
  7. Anyone getting excitement on a day 4 or greater model run
  8. I think they were all guilty but yes Euro OP had the biggest of dogs out of the OP models ...
  9. Briefly at accuweather; on from basically the beginning of Eastern; a bit on Harry’s; briefly on another place (I think I was the only one from MI); took a long break; now here.
  10. Wake up this morning. Look at the models.
  11. Why? 12/5 average highs for DTW are 40F. I think there are a lot of unrealistic expectations for December.
  12. Also wonder if some people realize what they say online is noted by company HRs and peoples social media is reviewed by HR hiring teams. I.e. private groups can be much safer.
  13. Yep. Mostly has to do with Trolls. This site isn't so bad but other internet forums got flooded with overwhelming trolls.
  14. I don't mind cloudy rainy weather. I will admit I really don't care for several days in a row of just dry and solidly cloudy with 30s & 40s but if is stormy like it has been the past few day then it doesn't bother me.
  15. I am more like Josh. I love a good snowfall even if it only lasts a couple hours. I'll take nickel and dime stuff anytime over cold and dry. Heavy rates a fun even if brief
  16. I spent 4 months (summer) working in Gustavus Alaska at Glacier NP back in the 90s. I asked the locals what the typical winter is like. They said 0 to over 200" of snow and everything in between. Every year is complete different based on the storm track/winds. One of my best summers. Loved it up there
  17. Palms that don't need man's intervention to survive multiple MI winters. Agreed!!
  18. whatever dude. That zoom in is ridiculous and you know it. SW MI is not the same as St. Louis and Cincinnati zone.
