E PA/NJ/DE Autumn 2025 Obs/Discussion

Bottomed out at 48 this morning at midnight before clouds must have rolled in to kill any radiational cooling. Ended up hitting 64 for a high just before noon and what are some intermittent bands of light rain that have passed overhead backing in from the SE. It's currently 61 with a little band that gave me 0.03" so far, and dp 59. Also saw that it appears La Nina is here through the rest of fall and into early winter - https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisory/ensodisc.shtml I think we sort of know the drill on that! -

Bottomed out at 40 this morning here in NW Philly, the lowest since April 13 IMBY. That will probably trigger some leaf coloring in the area (most of the tree leaves around here are still mostly green, with a few starting to yellow and others going direct to brown - probably from the lack of rain). Currently clear and 44 with dp 35. P.S. - I know Philly is in mourning this morning with a trifecta of Philly teams losing last night. -

That pre-frontal rain was stingy as hell here. I got up this morning expecting to have had something and there was nada until about 7 am when some droplets finally fell from the sky. Grand total was 0.18" and that has been all for the month so far (September was 2.39" IMBY). My high was 70 at midnight and I bottomed out with the front to 61 at 10:45 this morning. It's currently mostly sunny and 69 with dp 53. -

I remember hoping they would let us off work early but alas. NYC got bullseyed. What is notable is where the heaviest bands of rain within our CWA set up (more to the north and west of Philly metro) - But the winds along the coast were fierce! As an obs, it's currently overcast and 77 with dp 65. Am looking at the doppler with rain to our south. Need some of that up here! -

I saw one weather site talking about Fujiwhara. I remember that in the eastern Pacific in 2017 with Hurricane Hilary and TS Irwin - NASA had an interesting write-up and graphic of that - https://gpm.nasa.gov/extreme-weather/hilary-and-irwin-interaction-shown I got really screwed the past 3 days with the rain. Only got a total of 0.47" over those 3 days, with yesterday's 0.29" as the largest of the series. As an obs, I bottomed out at 66 this morning and got up to 81 as a high. Was surprised to see so much blue sky! Currently 74 with dp 64. -

And it looks like the front has moved the band to coastal NJ and it's starting to clear here, with the sun trying to pop in and out. The rain gods gave me an extended, much needed soaking, with nothing over around 0.5"/hr. Ended up with 0.87" in the bucket for today, so along with the 0.01" just before midnight, I have a 2-day event total of 0.88". Currently 68 and clearing, with dp 63. -

Got zero. Zilch. Nada from that prefrontal line but YAY for this current round that has been doing a slow soak since just before midnight. The "heavier" (in quotes) rates have come after 3 am, going as high as about 0.50"/hr but averaging in the 0.10 -0.30" per hour range. Currently have light - moderate rain, with temp 61, dp 61, and 0.49" in the bucket. -

Well as expected, that initial line completely broke up and fizzled as it passed over me, so got nada. I still ran out to put some fall fertilizer on the plants in case I get some kind of rain to get it watered in. Currently overcast with breaks of sun and 83 with dp 75. I did see the ST Watch up - -

I have a PM 2.5 sensor outside and something pinged it twice this week and figured maybe someone was bbqing nearby (which will cause that too), but didn't see anyone grilling. Looked like it was yesterday and Tuesday night. Otherwise, I bottomed out at 70 this morning and it shot up to 87 before clouding over. Currently a humid 85 with dp 75 and some little segment just to my northwest. -

Picked up 0.43" from 2 rounds (0.34" + another 0.09" later). Will take it! Last rain here was 0.10" on August 20th. Had bottomed out at 61 and got up to 83 yesterday. The humidity was clearly felt though. Currently 66 with dp 65. OT but glad the Iggles came through on game 1 (even with the lightning delay) because Dallas sucks! -

(Added this to the fall thread ) - Finished up August with 2.57" of rain and only 3, 90+ degree days. Final tally for JJA was 13.60" of rain and 26 days of 90+ (including the 1st triple digit day -100- since 2012). After a low of 54 yesterday, made it up to 78 for a high. Currently 60 with dp a pleasant 56. -

Just missed 90 yesterday but did make it up to 91 today after a 73 low. The rain gods have come! At one point I got up to 4"/hr rates but am running between 1 - 2" per hour. So far have 1.35" in the bucket. Currently 43 with dp 72. Am getting a FFW right now. -

Like saying "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle..." and there you are. Pulled out the hose this afternoon ahead of the upcoming mini-heatwave. Currently at my high (so far) of 87 with dp 64, which is still reasonable (not too bad out). -

Bottomed out at 62 this morning and am currently at my high for the day so far at 83, with dp 64. Guess we should enjoy before the next heat wave hits. AP had an article today about there being record humidity east of the Rockies so far this season based on EU's Copernicus (home of the EC) data - https://apnews.com/article/humid-muggy-sticky-climate-oppressive-summer-df1b506a3036a6ea0c4c8ad5bbd87429 Philly topped the list! -

The 57 low that I had this morning is the coolest here since June 15th. Had to pull out the hose Tuesday and will probably pull it out tomorrow before the heat returns. So far I only have 0.04" of rain for the month (and that came Aug. 1st) after finishing up July with 7.22". Made it up to 84 for a high today and without all the soupy humidity, so you couldn't ask for a better past couple summer days. Currently a mostly sunny 82 with dp 56. -

Keeps semi- fizzling here. Finally got a bit heavier rain rate but still under 1"/hr (highest was 0.9"/hr so far). Currently have 0.37" in the bucket at post time with temp 75 and dp 74. -

Severe Thunderstorm Watches are up - Made it up to 92 today after a 77 low before it clouded over. Got up to 96 yesterday and unfortunately had to go out in it to an afternoon dentist appointment in Ft. Washington. Ugh. Had 14 days of 90+ in July + 8 days of 90+ in June for 2 days so far this season. Currently down to 81 with 77 dp and the RAIN has come! However I only have 0,.08 inches in the bucket so it is just getting started. -

I finally managed to get 0.02" overnight before midnight, which was not really enough but I guess it kept me from a total miss. Still have to pull out the hose. My Upper Darby sis said they got a deluge with near an 1". After a 73 low yesterday, my high did end up being 96, making it 11, 90+ days in July so far. With the 8, 90+ days in June (with one of them being a 100), that takes me to 19 for the season at post time. Currently partly sunny and 75 with dp 73. -

DAMMIT! Got maybe 20 drops from that line. Literally nothing measurable enough to tip the bucket, let alone wet the street and walks. The heavier stuff bubbled north and south of me. It did drop the temp about 15 degrees from my 96 high to the current 82 with dp 75. Currently mostly cloudy and hope something will bubble up or I'll have to pull out the hose.
