  1. The 12z GFS says, “Not so fast, my southeast friends. But you folks in Payson, Arizona? Well, here’s three feet of snow for you.”
  2. Low of 26.8 this morning and 0.07” of rain. (The rain arrived after it warmed up above freezing as usual.) Wind gusted up to 24.3 mph yesterday.
  3. It’s way too early to start a thread, but if and when that time comes, let it be someone with some mojo.
  4. Got down to 27 last night. Pretty nice day today if it’s not going to snow. 54 and sunny.
  5. Things can change on a dime around here. I’m trying to remain optimistic for a little something to come together before the end of January.
  6. Light snow showers currently ten miles north of GSO. No accumulation. 40.6/30.2
  7. 45 with 0.13” of rain so far today. Drab and dreary day.
  8. We have three main seasons: severe, heat, and hurricane. This fourth minor season is just for fantasy dustings.
  9. I’ve been around here for over ten years and when this board is active and we have something to follow, it’s the best around. Great posters and a welcome break from the nonsense and turmoil found on most social media. Thanks to everyone of you for what y’all contribute. I’ve learned a lot.
  10. This isn’t related to the weather, but don’t bother buying a GE appliance. What an incredibly inept company especially since Haier purchased GE Appliance. Junk products and incompetent customer service.
  11. 0.45” overnight. I wish these clouds would roll out of here.
  12. I noticed that I didn’t get a notification on some very light rain (0.01”) that came through this morning. The Tempest’s temperature appears to be more accurate than the lower-end Accurite thermometer I had. We just need some direct sunlight. I’m at 2.45 volts because of this perpetual cloud cover. I purchased the Tempest based upon your thread here. I appreciate your suggestion. Now we need some interesting weather to follow. LOL.
  13. The Tempest arrived this afternoon. It was easy to set up and running. My only fear is that—with the sun unlikely to be seen until Monday—the battery won’t last.
  14. Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated. I think our crappy winter is all my fault, folks. It started last winter with my buying a whole-house generator. Then I topped off the propane tank to start this season. Then I bought a new weather station. It’s been a Zzzzzzzzzzzzz snooze fest around here ever since. Boring as can be. If I can get rid of the generator, burn through the propane, and stop model watching, I’m pretty sure that we can land a decent snow for all of us. I’m sorry. I just need to be unprepared.
  15. Since moving from Chattanooga to Greensboro in 2005, I’ve never been shutout here. (Chattanooga was a different story.) I’ve always ended up with at least a little something and several winters were pretty nice for snow lovers here. Last winter was the closest I came to zeroing right up until that March mini-snow. I’m holding out for a couple of late January to mid-February 3” snows. We’re due.
  16. I’ve resolved that I’m not going to fret. I’m convinced that March will come through for us with a featherlight dusting on the mulch. It’s going to be incredible. I’ll post photos.
  17. Nowhere for me right now. So many of those boards are dead. Social media screwed the internet up.
  18. I tend to be fiercely loyal, so I haven’t even started an account over there. Quality over quantity I suppose. Not that I’m personally involved in quality mind you.
  19. To the mid-Atlantic’s forum’s credit, they have chatter going even when the pattern sucks. We clam up and go silent. Maybe we’re all out doing yard work.
  20. I ordered a Tempest over the weekend. I plan to mount it on a 1.25” wooden dowel and attach it to my pergola (dowel painted to match pergola). A couple of 1.00” galvanized tube straps will hold the 1.25” dowel fairly well, but not tightly. (The 1.25” straps are too large.) I might wrap the dowel with some duct tape where it contacts the straps to take up the space. I want it to be snug. I’m looking forward to setting it up and testing it out. Heard only good things about the Tempest.
  21. But if I’m going to pay a hefty heating bill due to unexpected cold, I’d like to at least see a little snow on the ground at least once or twice. It’s a kick in the sack otherwise.
  22. All our players on the field were ejected and they’re ineligible for the first half of the next game.
  23. There are places around the Triangle that haven’t been considered traditionally Southern in decades. The dialects have become diluted and local elected bodies are comprised of fewer native Southerners than before. You go out to the western edge of the state and some would consider Carrboro (if they’d heard of it) to be another planet populated with communists. I guess the closest Tractor Supply to Durham and Chapel Hill is probably Hillsborough as that’s saying something.
  24. The new radar website from the NWS is terrible. Change my mind.
