  1. Have had multiple confirmed graupel reports from friends in the Manheim Township and Lancaster City areas. Of course, none of them would have known what graupel was but for the fact that I sent them a text earlier warning of the possibility haha. Haven’t seen any here yet but it’s always possible I missed it.
  2. Two-day rain total here of .46". Some real chill on tap the next few days.
  3. You called? Ah yes, I see the min record is 18 in 1923 and the min max is 35 in 1996. They are probably both still longshots but at least reasonably within the realm of possibilities. We'll have to keep an eye out as we move closer. Nice sleuthing Bubbler!
  4. Man, a lot of good wisdom in this thread. Look what you did @TugHillMatt haha. The commentary of @pasnownut has been spot on. You know it's funny, when I was growing up it was the hard religious right that was always trying to shut things down and now it's the hard left that's always trying to limit the free exchange of ideas. Stunning really, as there is no greater bastion of liberalism than free speech. Certain college campuses, for example, have become completely insufferable and turned wholly against what should be their core mission. Quite the sea change but politics, like everything else, is cyclical. The fringes almost always get drowned out, eventually. I'm reminded of one of my favorite sayings in politics "If you're young and republican you have no heart; if you're old and democrat you have no brain". I kid I kid of course, just had to throw a light jab at @canderson haha. Although, a lot of truth is said in jest My wife and I have a group of friends that run the gamut, from the biggest Trump fans to the most loyal Bernie bros. The bottom line is, if you can't adapt to talking to people in a reasonable manner and make your points without resorting to personal attacks the only place you have to look is in the mirror. We do have one friend who's left of Lenin who can be a little preachy and scolding at times but she still has a good heart, if only a little misguided (sorry I can't help myself ). I think most of us leisurely post on this board when we have a few free minutes or perhaps while collecting a paycheck ha. We don't define ourselves by anything that goes on in an online forum. The type of person who trolls message boards and hurls insults from their beaten-down keyboard deserves neither your scorn nor your time. They are worthless, less than dust. Words are wind. Frankly, I couldn't care less what they copy and paste to wherever because I stand behind anything I ever type, and can't imagine letting my personal mood be affected by some stranger anonymously posting drivel from some far-off basement. Well, the dog is barking over "no one" showing up to the door yet again, the toddler is screaming, and my nine month pregnant wife is about to burst; better get back to life. As always, I've said too much. Cheers lads and ladies.
  5. I made the mistake of going over there and breezing through that thread and wow, you aren't kidding. @TugHillMatt is a true hero but also much more patient than I could ever be haha. Who the heck is that "wxtrix" person? Seems like a complete looney tune in need of some serious help, highly unstable. There's some mod over there who doesn't seem much better. These people must have oatmeal for brains. How could anyone possibly engage in a cogent conversation with them. Good lord.
  6. Tell me about it. This is the biggest obstacle I face with the cylinder gauge and why core samples can be so important, although they present their own challenges.
  7. Low of 48 and .01” from the “storms” yesterday evening. A chilly day on tap.
  8. 75 here as well. We hit the river trail north of marietta earlier. Let’s see what this line does, don’t think it will be anything too noteworthy.
  9. High of 74 here. Gorgeous. Time to grill up some burgers.
  10. A low of 40 here with .21" rain yesterday. Currently at 42 under dense fog with visibility <1/8 mile. Just like that, the lower 48 is back to seeing triple digit readings, as Falcon Lake, TX hit 101 yesterday. National low was the usual suspect of Peter Sinks, UT at -23. Tomorrow could be a mildly entertaining weather day, first T-storm for some perhaps.
  11. Oh totally agree. I'm asking what your personal tradeoff is, if say you had to move south? How much would you have to gain in elevation to feel like you weren't losing out from your prior position? Yes a random inquiry I know, but these are the roads my brain goes down at times ha.
  12. That you are. This brings to mind something I have thought about in the past, that being, in terms of negating expected snowfall losses, how much would you be willing to give up in latitude to gain in elevation? For example, I think I would would want to gain at least roughly 100 feet in elevation for every 10 miles I moved south, or something to that effect. To put this in perspective, as the crow flies I'm about 25 miles north of the Maryland border, so I'd want to gain 250' in elevation if I moved there. Thoughts from others??
  13. Seems like I'm one of the only people around here who has yet to hit 70 this week (69 yesterday) but that should end tomorrow. A low of 47 here with a cool moderate rain having just moved through, on the order of like .01" per every five minutes. National high of 94 at Rio Grande Village, TX and low of -1 at Estcourt Station, ME; won't be long until we're seeing some triple digits and no more negatives.
  14. Hot damn! You and your little heat island ha. 69 here today.
  15. Well I'll be a monkey's uncle! Time to celebrate with the first grilling session of the season -- mid-rare steaks, grilled tri-color potatoes, and lightly seared asparagus.
  16. Yes as Training mentioned Mount Joy has ample parking, as it was remodeled right before we all got sent home for "15 days" haha. I will say, the borough was talking about charging for parking at the new station but I don't think they actually implemented anything, and even if they would there is plenty of free parking in residential areas around the station, much to the chagrin of the residents. It has a slightly limited schedule compared to Lancaster but otherwise is a much easier place to go out of, highly recommend. I knew Middletown was getting a new station but have yet to see it. I do miss the train sometimes, riding along the river and seeing the early morning fishermen. Relaxes the soul.
  17. I used to wake up at 5:30 everyday and was on the first train heading to Harrisburg out of Mount Joy, neck tie and everything. Now? I roll out of bed at 7:15 and log onto work in my knickers. Depressing, really ha.
  18. First order of business is creating separate classes for schools with boundaries and schools without boundaries. Too much consolidation of talent going on at private schools that get to classify themselves as small.
  19. I would gladly take the reigns but first working on becoming President of the PIAA to fix that monstrosity haha.
  20. Embarrassed to say I didn't think of this either and I even umpired one year haha. It's a really great point. More generally, if they push back the school schedule as a result of this it would have a negative impact on all after-school curriculars.
  21. Top of the morning to you! Unfortunately, no I have not reached out to CTP about that issue. I don't have any contacts there and honestly just haven't had the wherewithal to do it this time. I've got a boy about to turn two and a nine month pregnant wife about to burst at home, so I've been worn the F out ha. Maybe next time. Hey @canderson what did I tell ya about that Senate bill!? I see no reason why it won't pass the House. Although I must admit, hearing the other folks talk does have me feeling a bit nostalgic about the early darkness around the holidays. But bottom line is, more times than not, I'd rather have that extra hour in the evening. I think the vast majority of people agree on not changing the clocks anymore, just a matter of whether you prefer Daylight or Standard. I'm certainly sympathetic to the arguments on both sides and my main concern would be what this does to schooling, as I really don't want to see any changes to the school schedules. End of the day, I think it's more good than bad. People will adjust, as we always do. High of 67 here yesterday, low of 35 last night. A perfect 10 is upon us gentlemen, enjoy it. I'll be firing up the grill for some steaks, asparagus, and potatoes. Got to keep that pregnant belly full -- not mine of course, my wife's, although they tell me men can get pregnant now so who knows. Chow!
  22. Topped out at 56 yesterday and bottomed out at 30 last night. Looking forward to the upcoming stretch of weather.
