  1. High of 49 here yesterday with just a trace of rain. Low of 40 last night but temp has been on the rise since around midnight with the warm air invasion. Up to 59 already. Looks like the main line of storms, to the extent there is one, won't arrive here until late this evening. Lots of thick cloud debris to navigate today that could subdue things a bit as well.
  2. Well, as I expected very little in the way of precip here, <.01" in the cylinder.
  3. Well I couldn't agree with you anymore on that haha. But really I just want better radar coverage for our area. It's that simple.
  4. Completely agreed. I believe that article mentioned though that the squall-induced crash on I-81 happened at 10:30am but that the NWS "had made no observations of snow squalls in the area of the crash in I-81 until it sent out warnings at 12:15pm". The implication there seems to be that even CTP didn't have a grasp on that squall line and had not sent out warnings for that area, which if true, is highly problematic.
  5. Low of 23 here overnight. It's still pretty dry near the surface here with a current temp of 31 and dew of 17. Not sure we see much of anything in the way of measurable precip out this way.
  6. Yeah the radar hole, which is at its worst over the Lebanon/Schuylkill County areas and particularly bad for low-topped cloud events, is a real issue that everyone is aware of. You have to rely on visible satellites, highway cams, on-the-ground reports, and the like. Not ideal. Eric Horst was tweeting about this after the event and mentioned the push to get another weather radar somewhere in the vicinity of MDT or MU; not sure if there is really anything to that but it would go a long way towards solving the problem. It frustrates all of us.
  7. High of 41 here today. Dew point currently at 14 with clear skies and the winds have calmed. I should radiate out nicely, at least until the moisture arrives.
  8. The weather gods couldn't draw it up any better for ya than that.
  9. The Laurels have made out well the last few days. Seven Springs..... Laurel Ridge State Park.... http://www.paccsa.org/sites/default/files/webcamlr/netcam.jpg
  10. Low of 21 here. If you thought that min max record of 32 for Harrisburg was impressive, Bradford set a new record by topping out at 19. A high of 19 on March 28, just wow.
  11. Looks like MDT topped out at 32 as well, breaking the record of 35 set in 1996.
  12. I topped out at 31 today and even that was short lived, as most of the day was spent in the upper 20s. No snow here that I saw but for one brief period of light flurries.
  13. Yeah I get it, but it just came off as crass to me to be howling about the state of your Dodge Charger when there are quite likely people dying all around you.
  14. Exactly. I saw a longer version of that clip with sound on YouTube and the guy filming has an almost gleefulness in his voice as he's watching the horror unfold in font of him, and also seems to be more worried about his Dodge Charger than anyone or anything else. Pathetic.
  15. Seriously. The number of poor decisions being made in that video clip is astounding.
  16. Good lord that looks awful. Horrible situation that always seems to emerge somewhere along I80 or I81 during these types of events. Very sad.
  17. First snow squall warning of the day issued for areas just south of the border around the Catoctins. Some interesting discussion from CTP..... Concern remains for locally heavy snow showers/squalls this afternoon. Marginal diurnal heating should promote transition from bands to more cellular snow showers within a very steep lapse rate environment. Higher March sun angle through cloud broken cover should warm road surface temperatures above freezing which could lead to an initial melting then flash freeze scenario. However, very dry air near the sfc (mixed Td dropping into the single digits +/- 0F) could limit ability for snow to accumulate. Quick reductions in visibility are probable in heavier snow bursts along with persistent wind gusts 25-35+ mph. The dry low levels have tempered confidence to some extent regarding SNSQ risk/impact. Today should mark the coldest day/night until next fall. Fcst MaxTs are AOB record "mini maxes" with highs around 20F in the northern tier to the 30-35F range in the lower Susquehanna Valley - a remarkable 20 to 30 degrees below normal! (See climate section of AFD for some daily record low maximums). The cold NW flow finally loosens its grip on CPA Monday night as ridge of high pressure begins to slide eastward from the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley. Any lingering snow showers/flurries should fade with clearing skies and decreasing winds into Tuesday. One more cold night with MinTs in the teens to around 20F or 10-15 degrees below normal.
  18. Yeah I was thinking the same thing, surprised at how low I got given the wind conditions.
  19. Got down to 19 last night. Very impressive and may go lower tonight. NWS has significantly reduced the forecasted highs for today, so that MDT min max record of 35 that @Bubbler86 has been all over for days may be short-lived. I absolutely think we get some potent little streamers running through the LSV this afternoon. It's March 28th and this may go down as one of the more brutal days of "winter".
  20. High of 41 here today. Now down to 28 as I hit the hay. Had a couple periods where some flizzard-like conditions rolled through. Winter isn’t giving up without a fight.
  21. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on that with the min max record only being 35 for tomorrow. As of now, NWS has a high of 37 for the MDT area. Likely be a close call one way or the other.
  22. Low of 35 here. A raw couple of days on tap. Looks like Blue Knob got about 4” of snow, perhaps 6+ in some spots around the Seven Springs area.
  23. High of 52 here today. Despite seemingly everyone around me seeing some form of graupel or wintry precip, I had nary a drop of anything in any form here. Oh well. Interesting weather day nonetheless. Now we brace for some extreme chill.
