  1. No reason to believe it can’t. Wheeling is down to -4. PIT observed -1 on the hourly, then -2 right after so it’s officially our first below 0 in December since 1989 and only one degree to go to tie the daily record.
  2. If we could somehow drop another few degrees and break today’s record low of -3, that’d make it interesting. But PIT has been stagnant at 0 for the last hour. Though I guess some of those could be -1’s because of the rounding thing.
  3. Would venture to guess that the only instance of an afternoon below 0 in December was Christmas Eve/Day 1983. Even in 1989, afternoon temps were above 0.
  4. Afternoon of 1/30/19 was below 0, it appears. High was 15, low was -5.
  5. Record low max is 13. Only risk is we get midnighted with rising evening temps. 0z Euro would screw us verbatim.
  6. Can one of you explain why the high wind watch in CTP’s western counties hasn’t been made into an advisory or a warning despite the fact that it’s now ongoing?
  7. Upstream, Zanesville has made it to -5. Impressive considering their high will be 44.
  8. The only December record low since 1989 was a low of 7 on 12/6/17. It would indeed be nice to get our subzero temp out of the way before Christmas. I think there’s a good chance it gets below 0 at the airport but -3 might be a tough ask. We’ll know soon.
  9. I am, and this is indeed impressive. Nice to see an overperformance on the snow as well.
  10. Jesus, how did all these seshers get here?
  11. HRRR continues to suggest mid negative single digits tomorrow afternoon on its 18z run. I would say most 12z guidance trended a degree or two colder than previous runs. Could we see a probably almost unheard of subzero afternoon in December?
  12. Deep Creek (Garrett Co.) was part of NWS Pittsburgh’s area until it got illogically moved to LWX and separated from geographically similar Preston and Tucker counties. Then again, DC folk stole Deep Creek as our rightful Pittsburgh vacation spot and priced a lot of Pittsburghers out of it so that’s par for the course.
  13. Where do they get 70 mph but the separate wind advisory product says gusts to 50? Is this a mistake?
  14. So you would say these subzero afternoon/evening temps the coldest models are suggesting aren’t out of the question?
  15. HRRR likes to do that. Watch for that to moderate on subsequent runs. But it has stuck around for several of its long range runs now, so who knows?
  16. 12z GFS is probably on something but it pounds us with a heavy burst of snow with the front.
  17. 1989 is correct. Closest we’ve come since then is a low of 0 on 12/31/17. I think there was also a day in 2004 with a low of 0. I’m wondering honestly if our best shot is midday tomorrow immediately behind the front.
  18. Slowly rising temperatures Christmas Eve are going to midnight us out of breaking the low max record of 13, aren’t they?
  19. Hard to lean too heavily on that HRRR, the fropa on it is insane and drops our temps to -5 by 9am.
  20. Franco played his last game in a Steeler uniform before I was even born and this hits me harder than I thought it would. Legendary player, legendary person.
