    I mean, it’s not over yet (allegedly). But it’s definitely a crushing defeat for most of us if the bulk of the good stuff is done.

    I got maybe 0.1” that has already melted. I suspect similar for the official total at the airport. Glad the south hills and eastern suburbs cashed in, but it’s been a fail so far for much of the county.

    PIT reported moderate snow with half-mile visibility for a minute.

    By the end of the week? It’ll be gone by Wednesday afternoon, maybe even tomorrow if we get any sun at all.

    Most of the negativity stems from the fact that we’ve gotten 18” of snow in the past like 21 months. We need something, anything, to get this train back on the tracks.

    Snow. I’d be thrilled with .7 qpf, that’s like warning level shit.

    It’s gone back and forth, but the 6z HRRR and 3k NAM are showing 0.7” and 0.5” respectively. Is there anyone here who would consider those amounts a win?

    Honestly the advisories in OH/KY are some of the weakest advisories I’ve ever seen. “Snow accumulations up to one inch, snow accumulations up to two inches, snow accumulations up to one half inch.” It just doesn’t take as much for them to get an advisory. Then again, even the ones for Pittsburgh’s northern counties are for “up to two inches.”

    Yeah, it’s really easy to move all of my family and friends and everyone I care about, most of whom don’t even like snow, to a place that actually gets snow.

    Now the amounts in the lowlands are back down again while they jacked up the amounts in the ridges. I hate living here. I’ll reiterate my position: anything more than an inch is a victory, anything less than an inch is a loss, but not an unexpected one.

    Yes. 1” would be satisfactory. Falling short of that would be sadness.

    Yep. This team is horrific. Fire/cut them all and start over.

    Western PA pro football is also lacking, though we’ll see if they can hold on in an important one. Edit: after a complete defensive breakdown on a broken third down play, I definitely have my doubts.

    Is it painful to think that Michigan or OSU probably prepares for a whiteout game in Happy Valley like they’re preparing to take on an FCS opponent?

    NWS has already backed off the totals significantly and we’ll be lucky to get a half inch if they’re right.

    So by extension, the CPC is useless to society (but only when it shows bad news)?

    NWS is officially forecasting 1.1” at PIT with a 54% chance of at least an inch Monday night. I guess we’ll see if we get the heavier snow showers.

    I did read the text of said outlook and it does seem to provide some hope for week 4 and beyond with respect to the teleconnections, MJO, and possible SSW events.

    Believe me I’m hoping for the same. But that CPC outlook felt like a punch to the groin.

    The people at the CPC are (checks notes) pro forecasters, and they’re calling for very solid chances at above normal temperatures in the 6-10 day, 8-14 day, and week 3-4 outlooks. Not saying you can’t get snow in that pattern because you can, but I think above normal temperatures well past the new year are a good bet.

    Wouldn’t the week 3-4 outlook reflect that, given that you’ve been advertising this pattern change for days, so it’s not like the CPC hasn’t caught up?
