The event of the season - 2 days of hell!

Nope, wind remains unchanged. Short gusty periods followed by lengthy lulls. Temp and dewpoint on a nice smooth downward slope. -

It has always spent the winter in a giant heated polycarbonate box that stays above 20 degrees. It's deceptively larger than it looks in pictures and has become a way bigger engineering and construction project than I can handle, mostly because of my crippling fear of heights. -

Kinda sad that my windmill palm is about to go palm heaven. Pretty wild that it has made it this deep into winter essentially unharmed. If it wasn't for the next 3 nights, I truly believe it could have survived the winter. -
Sleet now.

I was about 1/4 mile away from getting Moultonboro'd last night. The whispering pines condos got wrecked. It used to be a nice dense shady lot but it's so open and sparse looking now. Hard to tell, but I think they lost 4 of their biggest pines, which pancaked everything else around them. This is like 500 feet away from me... sewage pump station lost part of its roof. Some strips of marina roofing are missing. Haven't made it over by Governors Island yet... based upon the outage map, they had a lot of fun last night.

This woodpecker was so disappointed that it appears he died on the feeder. Hasn't moved in almost 20 minutes? -

34.0 Too warm for any fun here. Didn't expect to wake up to rain. Only got about 5-6" and that was all yesterday. It snowed much of the night but instead of clinging to trees, they all melted out. Looking across the bay, the trees are fully caked and bending starting around 700' or so. Looks like nearly everywhere above that elevation in Laconia and Gilford is without power. -

30+ inches in 10 hours or I don't want it. -
The Lahaina fire is still slowly ongoing. The first two nights ended up being a pretty cool/scary experience. Came creeping down the mountain: It grew into a 1-2 mile wide inferno that came ridiculously close to the edge of town. There was so much smoke in the hotel that I was afraid the fire alarms would go off. Ash was raining down. Pretty surreal to see the restaurants packed with people happily dining outside by the bright orange glow and live music. Between songs you could hear plenty of coughing and hear distant smoke alarms. It was really hard to sleep... the smell of smoke just does not let your brain relax. The fire slowed down overnight, but sprouted again the following afternoon in random spots all over a 2 square mile area. Made for a pretty intense scene from my evening cruise. The smoke was a lot worse that night.
