Wut the fuk? I just checked radar and the entire precip complex is gone. Like totally disappeared. Radar history doesn't even show how it happened. Feels like Theranos. Is it winter already?
Wow a solid blob of rain coming in from the SW. This is perfect. Overcast day, solid dump of rain, then nighttime...perfect to help soil moisture. Maybe I should.lay down some seed before it hits.
Seems like our rain chances keep drying up the day before. I need to overseed, typically I do it during a damp stretch in September. Luckily most of my lawn has transitioned over to moss as trees have grown and shaded it out. It's always green and from a distance looks like lush grass.
It's typical JB where he hypes the winter in his posts:.
"The bottom line is we have a relatively bullish HDD season and when we look at snow, that is likely to be above normal in much of the nation from the Plains to the East Coast."
Crazy loud and long thunder here, vibrating the house. Moderate rain, nothing too heavy. Feels like a sauna outside again. Luckily I got a new condenser coil in my air handler and the outlet air is 58F. I hope this precip pattern lasts to winter.
ALEET!
Weatherbell has their prelim winter forecast out and is predicting below normal temps and above normal snow for eastern US. This is a departure from their usual winter forecast when they predict below normal temps and above normal snow every year.
Look at these babies. Gorgeous coloring and growing very quickly. They do very well on Chaste which is no surprise since they both hail from the Mediterranean. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
Drought journal day 142. The drought continues to persevere. We received 1/2" more drought last night and it looks like more is incoming as we speak. We'll continue to press on.
I was thinking, the bay is a pile of crap. In December it keeps temps too warm because of the warm water and then by spring we have this terrible cold onshore breeze where we're like 10deg colder than DC for days until the water starts to warm. Stupid bay.
What's the impact if this hurricane season fails to materialize? My understanding is that hurricanes are basically engines that transport heat from the tropics to the poles. Without any hurricanes this year it seems like all that heat won't be transferred and will just sit in the tropical waters. Eventually something has to give, right?
Wut!? At ease @mattie g these babies are too valuable to waste on fish. Those regalis are worth about $10 a piece. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
Check these out. L4/L5 larvae of the Death's Head Hawkmoth. It puts the lotion on its skin. Ok back to my basement to continue sewing.... Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
Not sure if there are any other lep lovers here. I had this girl eclose a few days ago. It's actually an eacles imperialis form didyma. The female has much more dark markings on the wing margins than regular imperialis. They're very rare around here. In 20yrs of rearing and collecting down in Calvert co. I've never seen a didyma. Luckily she paired with a wild males, I hope some of her offspring have the same trait. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
