  1. May get a sneaky 90 here today. 88 degrees already. Very uncomfortable in the sun
  2. 87 at 1pm is the warmest we’ve been at this time in about a month.
  3. What’s unique about this dry spell is that nothing too abnormal will show up on the records. Airports have been hit with pop ups. In my backyard I’ve measured 4.75” since May 18. Of that, 2.25” occurred on August 3rd.
  4. The Burlington/Hamilton area and down towards the Niagara region had a few training storms today. I could see the massive clouds all day. Typically you get the initial line and that sucks all the energy out of it. But more kept coming. Few of the storms were tornado warned.
  5. Getting skunked again today. Someone should do a graduate research project detailing what exactly happened to the southern most portion of Kitchener. Areas 30 miles north and 30 miles south have gotten hammered this summer. But nothing here. There is an incredible amount of new construction happening here. So the air is really dry and dusty. Maybe all the moisture is just getting sucked up? Really grasping at straws.
  6. I saw more rain in that 20 minute video than I have seen all summer.
  7. Same here. Picked up 5 mm if I’m super generous and tilted the rain gauge slightly.
  8. Unreal. This dissolved into nothing the second it entered this newly formed desert. Less than 0.10”. Or the equivalent of knocking off morning dew.
  9. This was our best chance in a long while. Slid to the north.
  10. I drove by some corn fields today’s in areas just south of Kitchener. It’s bad. Leaf curling, half the leaves are brown. Just not good. Our last rain was 13 days ago. Only about 1.3” in July. Not so fun fact. More than half of all Canadians live in areas with at least abnormally dry conditions.
  11. Easily the most boring summer for weather in my adult life. Even when “humid” air moves in it’s like the existing dryness of the soil just sucks it up. The only haze we have seen has been due to roadside fires from cigarette butts. Day 10 of no rain. It’s just very desolate here. Leaves dropping before any colour change. Barren landscapes due to drought, and growing water restrictions for recreational purposes.
  12. Not a single drop of rain in 9 days. Just another of these relentless dry down streaks. At least it’s not Winnipeg. 0.4 mm of rain since July 20th. Crazy.
  13. Just when I thought this drought crap was done with, here we are with 6 straight days of no rain. Long long stretches this year of no rain.
  14. Yesterday snuck up on me. That line that formed under the Hamilton, Burlington, and Toronto area yesterday evening was impressive. Probably half the population of Ontario right in that corridor.
  15. This one had a fair amount of rotation. Was neat watching it spin
  16. Confirmed tornado about an hour away in Mitchell Ontario. It’s now gone. But what a spectrum of storms southern Ontario has had the last 2-3 days. Loving this weather.
  17. I woke up to the beautiful sound of water squishing under my feet. We had 1.4” of rain and a chance to get a little bit more. Our soils needed a good natural flush. Noon update: at 2.25” now. Easily our biggest rain of the entire year.
  18. Wow. We did it. 1.4” of rain imby. I’m so happy.
  19. Today will be 75 straight days without exceeding 0.75” of rain in a single day.
  20. Toronto has had the hottest July on record. Mean temperatures were 25.0 C. Breaking the previous mark of 24.4 C.
  21. Picked up 5 mm or 0.2”. We lost about 0.35” through ET in the last 2 days. This was our wet stretch of the week. A net loss. Slim chances of rain for the next 7 days or so.
  22. I cannot believe it. No rain at all. Another day of watching the surface of the earth crack in desperation.
  23. Our rain chances dropped quite a bit today. 80% to 40%. After today drier air moves in and we are expecting sunny conditions all week. We really need today to be special.
  24. Hit 90 again. This might be the last 90 degree day and 70 degree night. Just a hunch.
