  1. Crazy that this 3+ inch snowstorm drought is happening. We were on such a roll in November and December. Now at 47 days without a 3 inch storm. The Sunday system is gone and the Tuesday system is way east. We are likely going to hit 50+ days.
  2. I’ll take what the Canadian and GFS are selling Saturday night into Sunday.
  3. I’ve seen the same thing. My guess is that the dense canopy catches a lot of the snow. The dark green color then absorbs heat and melts the snow on the branches. The now liquid snow falls to the ground, leading to further melt below the canopy. That’s my two Canadian cents.
  4. What my temperature forecast looks like in Celsius. Yuck. Though when the sun comes out you can definitely start feeling it.
  5. Wouldn’t mind seeing something. Watching storms dissipate or bend and contort themselves around southern ON for past 35+ days has made things boring here.
  6. Most observations in the area has that at around 6-7 cm.
  7. Was curious to know how long it’s been since we got 3 inches of snow. 38 days.
  8. That would be pretty devastating in places like Kentucky. People will have to cover a lot of plants.
  9. In 31 days it will be March. Can’t wait. I’ve already got my snow fix.
  10. 2.5” on the dot in Kitchener. Maybe a couple of scraps left. For a period of time it didn’t look like a system that was limping on one leg. Had some good bursts today.
  11. I didn’t expect to see snow ripping like this here. Pleasant surprise. Accumulating pretty quickly.
  12. Sweeping statement to my untrained eye is that everything has slightly bumped up in southern Ontario.
  13. When I lived in Will county for a couple of years I always thought the snow gradients were always super tight there. Looks like it may happen again.
  14. Speaking in front of other people is huge and can be great for someone’s career. Public speaking has always terrified me. There is a classic Seinfeld joke. Most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy. I tackled my fear by practicing my presentations. Then practice more. And then recording yourself while practicing. Hearing your own voice is pure cringe. But it helped me “own it”. I give 30-40 presentations a year now. More so with virtual meetings. Still get super anxious right before but nothing like the early days.
  15. Looks like a big hit for some that haven’t gotten any. For me that first wave runs out of energy before it gets into southern Ontario and the 2nd wave is only about 100 miles to my south. I’m going to guess this ends up very very close imby.
  16. Plainfield IL is where I lived before moving to Kitchener. I remember reading those mini books about it and some of the old timers still remember it vividly.
  17. How many people here work in meteorology? Just curious. Those that do not, why are you interested enough in this field to participate or lurk on this forum? For me I study plant diseases and I am always interested in the environment.
  18. Took a picture of one of the snowflakes we got today.
  19. That winter 2013/2014 nuked so many golf course putting greens. Chicago courses were destroyed. Pretty much a straight line from Chicago through Michigan and into southern Ontario. Winters in the GL region kills more high maintenance grass than the summers do.
  20. Doesn’t seem like the cold air will catch up to the precipitation this time around.
  21. Not much wind for the past week. I’ve seen lots of people hiking about and lots of the urban trails are packed. It’s actually been nice. That said I’m ready for the weather to do something.
  22. It’s likely going to be mid-January until we see snow falling again. That would be about a 20 day span (Dec 25 - January 14) without more than 2 inches of snow. That would also be the first 20 days of the provincial lockdown. Boring as it is.
  23. Haven’t seen the sun in a week. The daytime highs are forecasted to be 28-32 degrees. Every day. For 10 straight days. Boring.
  24. Really nice morning snow in the great suburban town known as Kitchener.
