  1. FWIW the 6Z GFS looks quite different than the last few runs...
  2. There were many a year when our New Year's weekend season kickoff just couldn't happen in Far Northern Vermont because they're simply wasn't enough snow EDIT: Or any snow, unless you were up on the top of Jay Peak
  3. Careful with pressing the rewind button too far, you'll end up in the miserable winters of the 80s
  4. Quite well. Same to you! Be seeing you more here soon I believe
  5. True, however what some here fail to understand is the further you go in the future the harder timing becomes... and should be looked at with a grain of salt. Expecting a prognostication to hold past a couple weeks ( being EXTREMELY generous right there) and not change is foolish, but fun to discuss. Some just get too wrapped up in it
  6. Hey, I look at it as something interesting to track. Changes seem to be afoot... we'll see
  7. Very true, I've discussed that with my Eversource contacts about wind direction and failures. It isn't all the same for every area but it makes sence. We are lucky enough to have our own grid in Westfield and they are amazing at quick restorations. I'm sure you're right about the wet ground playing a role, we were just talking about that here
  8. Power out in Westfield... and we didn't have a gust over 30
  9. Quite a number of small limbs down heading to Simsbury this morning. More down this way than up in the Westfield area for sure. We had one large gust about 20 minutes ago but it's calmer now. 58 degrees
  10. We've got a large silver maple in our side yard with a double trunk starting 18' off the ground. We just noticed recently that one side is hollow and has multiple squirrels living inside. Getting quotes to have it taken down, even though many of the wind events have been quiet overblown by some... 20 mph gusts here now and 56°
  11. I think it's been proven that a lot of what we were told was pure B.S. whether deliberately, or ignorance (doubtful) and it was nothing the big white house had anything to do with.... now back to our regularly scheduled winter cancel weather chatter, and cops naked in their cruiser
  12. I was pretty sure it was '81 in Granby CT, but the force is not strong with dates like Will lol. I had a weather diary from between 1978 and 1996 that was lost in a move, so i have to rely on memory. Also IIrc (probably not) Christmas 1980 was absolutely frigid, but no snow
  13. I'll always remember my uncle somehow getting his car stuck in the snow off the driveway in our side yard when leaving our house that Christmas (spiked eggnog?) Took us an hour to shovel enough to get him out. IIRC it's the most snow OTG I remember on the holiday in my area
  14. Another day, another interesting look on the 6Z GFS for next Friday/Saturday
  15. Weird evolution the end of next week on the 6Z GFS, and then a few flakes in the air Christmas morning for some of SNE. And... it will change 50 more times between now and then
  16. Got that right! Look at almost every run of the GFS op in the long range. Can't nail down anything
  17. The weather variety is awesome. We're finally getting to visit Thailand next year. Absolutely beautiful country, but it's always sort of hot, hot, rain and hot rain I don't know if I could live with that all the time
  18. And far more the norm than not in this area... Sorry, I had to...
  19. True. What is the average for a white Christmas at say BDL.. like 20 +- percent? It certainly doesn't happen often
  20. I happen to agree with his sentiment... so there!
  21. I would never say that, at least speaking of SNE. Some of the best winters in this area didn't get started until early January. However I don't expect this to be a big snow year here either, just hopefully close to average
