Only one example: That has disappointment written all over it with slight variance.

I'm not quite sure what you're expecting from a seasonal model, but that's a really good signal for precip...and precip of the frozen variety.

I am beginning to be concerned more about precipitation than temperatures. An historical Nino gives heavy precipitation to the Carolina's and south with Va/Maryland being on the northern fringe.  Nearly all current guidelines suggest this may be a suppression winter when we so desperately need heavy precipitation for the widespread drought, especially western areas.

    They do? It does?

    What does this really mean????

I *think* it means that, if we want a better shot at below normal temps in winter, then we should root for a chilly October rather than a chilly November, but perhaps my reading comprehension isn't as good as it once was.

I don't get that impression at all....I mean, its not frigid and there are times when the cold will dump west early on, but looks like plenty of ridging over the eastern Pac and AK.

You have to understand that EJ will always identify even one pixel of perceived negative data and make sweeping statements about the negative results for us.

Mother’s house in Vienna got 10” in Jan 2018 and 9” in Jan 2022.

Missed January 2018 in my notes - we had 10" as well.

Really interesting how you can definitely see how the atmosphere is responding to the change in seasons as each run looks out further into October.

The brave entomologists out there are starting to whisper, remember the lantern fly Armageddon we predicted where agricultural crops would be devastated wherever they arrive? Yeah, well, we may have spoken a little soon...

    Yeah...but F lantern flies.

Nov 15th, 2018 was my last big snowstorm with 5.5". no storm has topped that since. 18-19 was a Weak Nino.

We got 2" from that one here, but more than 9" from the early-January 2022 event.

That 2022 one was cool because it flipped from light rain to ripping snow while temps dropped during the day.

    Lantern flies here.

We've so far escaped them in my neck of Fairfax County, but I'm assuming it's a matter of time. We went apple picking in Berryville this weekend and I killed all three that I saw.

Was up in South Jersey about six weeks ago and didn't see nearly as many as I did at the same time last year. My dad said that they weren't as plentiful as they had been in the previous couple years, so I guess that's good.

Leaves are really beginning to pop out here for those wanting to get some early peeping.  This weekend should be really nice.  The following weekend as well, the recent rains give me confidence we won't have a quick leaf drop and the colors should last for a while.

I definitely want to get out there sometime. Wife has been wanting to do a weekend trip with our girls, so maybe in the next couple weeks.

Heading to Berryville for apple picking this Saturday. Won't be quite what it's like by you, but should be starting to show some color.

It is generally better. I made the post wrt to the discussion above regarding Dec being a winter month anymore.. white Xmas or torch. CanSIPS at least suggests a chance of the former, CFS not so much.

Gotcha. Yeah...we've torched hard in December recently (aside from late December last year), but agree that it's either that or a pleasantly surprising white December.

That said, last CanSIPS was a weenie run. Would be nice to see it go that way again in a few days.

We've overplanted tomatoes and peppers once again this year and they're still prolifically producing.  On our 4th batch of salsa and I need to go pick once again.  My super-hots are finally ripening (Scorpion and Ghost chilis) so time for the hot stuff to be added in.

Sounds awesome. Better to have more than you need than less!

Same here n terms of production. We've got enough green tomatoes on the plants right now to once again keep us in fresh tomatoes through October (assuming no early frosts). I'll probably make another half batch of smoked salsa in the next couple weeks, if only to make some room in the freezers by using more of our frozen tomatoes!
