The underground nests are still going I'd bet. Some of the workers have died but there are more still hatching until the days get colder.

You need high temps below 50 combined with multiple freezes, iirc.

The last two times I went to Florida were in October, which was FLL to Key West (roughly). I did not see a t-storm in 2.5 weeks.
