  1. This place dies right before and during storms. Seems like more are here for the chase than the goods.
  2. Wish there was more cold air around so this wasn’t so dynamically driven. If it weakens in modeling over time, thinking it becomes more slop and rain.
  3. I would note, speaking of both ‘93 and ‘96, the big ones usually get locked in early. Some good anecdotes in the Mid-Atlantic board archives that ‘93 was the best modeled storm in history at the time, and a major achievement in long-range forecasting.
  4. Starting to think things may get going here in Raleigh before 5 based on short range high res models
  5. The wouldn’t be able to play the Masters at Augusta if that happened
  6. ‘93 was a once in a generation triple-phasing deal
  7. GFS seems settled in. All noise now. Probably last global we should look at. I’m not messing with the RAPs and all that bullshit. It’s radar and window watching time.
  8. It’s tough to gripe any chance we get snow, but I will take a moment to do so. Namely concerning timing. Subjectively, the absolute best timing for snow is for it to begin just after sunrise, allowing for maximum daytime viewing. After all, can’t snow all day if you don’t start early.
  9. Hate these storms where you’re waiting for the precip to materialize. Much prefer to see it coming from Alabama.
  10. https://twitter.com/raleighwx/status/1484347688107741189?s=21 What’s a 200 mile jog west amongst friends?
  11. Let’s learn fun, new ways to go from 30 inch outputs to 0.3 inch realities.
  12. The key in marginal-moderate situations is to drink enough during the actual falling of snow, for the end total to become of little importance.
  13. Leaned on the RAP once while living in DC -- showed me getting 13 inches, ended up with 34 and rain. So it can kick rocks.
  14. GFS is East. Not great folks. edit: at least through 48 it was, although it may actually be a touch better organized
  15. We all need to take a moment to bask in the glory days of this hobby. As much as I lament it sometimes, there is still excitement in the chase, and checking in on models every 4-6 hours. In 20 years, the guesswork will probably be gone, and largely, so will this hobby.
  16. I thought the whole data ingestion myth had been dispelled on here some time ago?
  17. I used to think he was just a kid so I’d cut him some slack. That was 13 years ago.
