  1. Going to be a large spread in totals across the TC metro. Southern burbs should cash in nicely. I think I’ll be sitting in a transition zone ~20 miles north of the better totals, but it’s close enough that model watching is useless at this point.
  2. -2F currently, clearing made its way further east then anticipated and temps really plummeted
  3. Hi res models and the GFS have shifted back north and put twin cities in line for heavier snow. I love chaos at the 11th hour
  4. My call is going to bust high. Probably more like 1-3” in the metro
  5. 0.4” with the wave overnight, 1-1.5” in western suburbs and just a dusting northeast metro. Enough to freshen up the glacier.
  6. NAM giving me some hope but I sense a painfully close whiff to the south. Congrats Albert Lea
  7. Going to have to break out the powder skis for the back bowl at Welch Village ski area Sunday morning. 40 miles south of msp should mean an additional couple inches
  8. My gut says euro is too far north and this is more of an I-90 special in MN. First call 2.9” imby
  9. Lost a couple inches of snow in the weekend warm up. 5” snow depth and no thaws in sight. Wednesday we will fall behind on snowfall for the season. 35.4” as we sit now.
  10. The sky is a strange color (blue) and there is a warm orange ball in the sky. What’s going on? I miss my pastel gray....
  11. Winnipeg also has had two days this month where the high failed to go above 0F.
  12. That’s why I advocate Minneapolis as a reasonable compromise city for those who love winter weather but need to support a family. Snowcover since November 26, frozen lakes that just hosted a large national pond hockey tournament...and it’s been a mild with average snowfall. You be you Beavis.
  13. Beavis if you want a good mix of economic opportunity and winter weather may I suggest Minneapolis. Sure we get occasional torches and only average 50-55” annually, but growing up in Chicagoland I’ve noticed a stark difference with the cold and staying power of snow up here. Sun angle makes a big difference, a lot less melt off on a 40 degree day here then in Chicago. Oh and the lakes solidly freeze up every year even in the cities. BTW my house is about 10 miles south of the 45N parallel.
  14. Hoosier to build on your point. November 25th the total seasonal snow in Minneapolis was 1.6". In the two weeks since then we are at 18.4"
  15. Looks pretty chilly up here the middle of next week. Transient cold however.
  16. Bring it. We are already -5.3” below average for snowfall. Tuesday/Wednesday event trending better up here.
  17. Another miss to the SE so yeah I’d say that’s very viable.
  18. Lutsen already open??? I knew they were making snow. Wife and I went to Trollhaugen last weekend, November 2nd is now the earliest i've ever skied. Most of the Twin Cities hills will be operational by next weekend.
  19. We are flying into Auckland, spending a couple days in that area (coromandel peninsula, city center ect...), then heading to Rotorua and Taupo. We are both avid outdoors-people, and will be hiking the northern circuit of Tongariro National Park and tent camping on an active volcano. Driving south from there we plan on checking out some of the wineries around Hasting/Napier, then spending a day in Wellington before hopping on the ferry to the south island. Plan on doing a trip to Tasman National Park for the beaches, and maybe stop over in Marlbourgh. Christchurch is probably where we will spend New Years as we currently have a hotel reserved, and from there drive over the Arthurs Pass region and doing short hikes along the way to Greysmouth. Currently looking at booking a helicopter tour of Franz Joseph or Fox glaciers, there are mountain huts only accessible by helicopter right on the edge of the glaciers that we are looking at spending a night at as well. From there we plan to drive and hike around the Haast pass region, and Fiordland National Park for some more camping, then end our trip with couple days in and around Queenstown, before flying back to the states. Our south island itinerary is less set in stone, as we are still putting things together, but that is a general idea. Definitely want to try and squeeze in penguins in Dunedin if possible. I've seen wild penguins before but my wife hasn't. What i've learned from planning this trip is New Zealand is an incredible country and our trip is only half as long as it properly needs to be.
  20. Just gonna vent real quick. Getting missed to the south 3 times in October really sucks for a weenie like me. Waiting for climo to even things out but I’m sure that will happen while I’m in New Zealand for my honeymoon Dec 22 - Jan 8 you can lock it in. at least it’s been fun to track something
